I thought about buying a copy just to quote the 3 paragraphs it had on Ranger. One states that our camoshelters make our group invisible to creatures thus protecting us from harm. I wish I could remember the exact words but that was the jist of it. It also stated that our Ranger abilities assist any group in combat and even more so against creatures. Then it went on to say that if we have a combat class added with Ranger we add more. What was funny was that it leads you to belive that Maser Ranger alone adds a ealth of support to a group even if you are fighting NPCs without having any other combat profession. This is the official guide updates for the Combat upgrade and the Total Experience Package.

[Ranger]
Primary Role: Stealth, Tracking, Creature Combat
Secondary Role: Camping, Creature Trapping, Creature Harvesting

The Ranger profession is not a particularly strong Combat profession, it receives no inherent combat abilities. The profession is a supplemental in regards to combat, meant to enhance the combat abilities of another combat profession by adding the abilities of Stealth, and Tracking, as well as bonuses when combating Creatures. Additionally, their mastery of camping allows them to build extravagant campgrounds in the wilds, rivaling even permanent structures in complexity.

[Combat Profession Ratings]
Offense: Minimal (1)
Defense: Weak (2)
Crowd Control: Minimal (1) versus NPC's - Moderate (3) versus Creatures

New HOWTO: Gather Milk, Fish, Mollusk, etc.

Ahhh, that's why they aren't touching us.

Those numbers fit our current situation perfectly. We are WAD

... but weren't we supposed to be the creature hunter profession? That and we only get 3? Smugglers are the mezzers and they get what? Crowd-control 4? 5?

Has anyone ever tested if a Master Ranger-only ( CL 57? ) can really kill an even con creature?

I can't vouch for master ranger only, but I can say that master ranger / novice marksman / some medic does quite well against an even con creature. I dropped all of my carbine skills and all of my marksman skills so I could get master medic and the BE tree required for the FS persuasion quest, and I had to work back up from no marksman skills. I was honestly surprised at how well I was able to do solo or with a droid against white and yellow cons. Being over cl 54 meant I could weild a laser carbine with decent damage and the battle armor cert meant that I had decent protection as well. Oh, I did have some trees in medic left too, so this wasn't quite the test you're looking for. Still, the kb article saddens me - sigh.

Well if I get the time I might go level a Master Ranger on TC and test it... I'll need such a character anyway should we ever get a revamp of our own.

Im considering changing from Squad Leader to Ranger and this is what intrigued me. Is there a place I can see some screenshots or other pictures of the more complex ranger camps? It could be the deciding factor. Also, how permanent are they?

Other than the fact that they look kind of cool.....these camps don't do jack.

We don't merit anything higher than a 3 in any capacity? No wonder all we get is from the Community Director when discussing Ranger. Those numbers indicate we work perfectly

camps disband when you enter combat. the High-Tech Field Base (best ranger camp) contains lots of chairs, crafting stations, and i believe a faction terminal for requisitioning supplies if you are Overt when you place it.

sitting in a camp for a long period of time will heal your wounds.

the HTFB has a laser fence that is SUPPOSED to repel aggro creatures, but it repels aggro the same way a CL1 all-entertainer toon repels aggro from a Krayt Dragon.

How could you leave out the fact that the two highest camps get crafting stations!? The HTFB has both an equipment and a food station, while the Field Base has only a food station.

Of course I used the stations maybe twice in two years, but they are there...
