Thread: Discussion on Disarming Mine Fields

So I have tried this many many many times with no success, other then a message saying "you look for mines, but do not locate any."

Delta said this was a ranger only function so I'm posting this here. I recently was overt and at an Imp base. It had a couple mine fields outside of it, so I figured I'd try disarming for the heck of it.

One thing I figured out, is eve though you are close enough to get the "disarm mine" radial to light up, you can't actually do it. You get the message above unless you are fight infront of the little tower. I mean right up to it like 1m.

From there I chose to disarm, and you go to a kneeling position, and wait. Then "boom" the thing blows up in my face. A message "you are unsuccessful at disarming the mine" comes up. I did this until the thing was out of mines, that is blowing them up not disarming them. I was buffed and wearing armor so it wasn't to bad.

But my point is, that after maybe 15 attempts, and 15 explosions, a master ranger was unable to disarm a single mine. Is this thing based on a skill like trapping or something? Whats the percentage chace or what ever? It seems pretty bad that with all the points to master ranger, and this being the only blatent PvP thing rangers can do, that I couldn't disarm in 15 trys.

Discuss.

Try it when prone. I've never managed to find a mine field that wasn't empty but I was never told the "you don't find any mines" message unless I was prone.

Try the bases at Neo-Rome, Naboo but beware of the covert scanners and the imperials shooting at rebel scum :-).

Naboo, hmm. I should have a few conceal kits lying around that will protect me from the NPCs but do you mean PCs for the "imperials"? I won't last long against any players (probably not even long enough to disarm a mine).

Hehe you and me both Nemo. A couple of my guildies have taken to terrorizing Imp player cities on Naboo. One of our favorites, had just had all it's turrets taken out. We rolled into town to find absolutely no players. So we dicided to take out all the NPC at their base. And I "tried" to take out the minefields. Well I guess the one I did, the hard way.

so you actually /kneel now when your are searching for mines?... that's odd, and contrary tomy old methods for removal.... i guess we can toss those out...

from my understanding of the old system, trapping score helps us avoid setting a mine off whether we are just strolling through or actually trying to disarm the mines... it doesn't really give us a bonus to actually disarm them...

again... i haven't successfully disarmed one since october... i'll try to find one with some actual mines in it now...

oh, and does /disarm work when targetting the minefield?... i can't remember (though it probably assumes the pistoleer special, disarming shot)

I didn't do a /kneel command, the game did the animation for me after selecting the disarm mines from the radial menu. I'll try the prone one next. I know lots of Imp cities full of mines, on my server.

oops... habit on my part.. i didn't mean that you do the /kneel command... i was curious about it making you kneel... dang "/" popping in there...

i listed my old technique for mine removal on the GCW board's mine thread (and got 1-starred, so with a filter you may have missed it)... but i don't recall it doing a kneel animation, so it probably won't work anymore... the old mines required that you be moving through the field while attempting a disarm... ie. hold shift and walk forward while you click "disarm" on the radial menu - apparently the chances of you triggering/finding a mine was tied in with your speed of movement through the field...

i need to find an imperial minefield now...

AFAIK anyone can disarm a minefield (one mine at a time) and the success rate is completely random.
