I'm curious about all the stuff I've read about not using buffs or armor. I'm wondering it those of you that don't use buffs or armor are master riflepeople? I'm on my way to being master ranger/master swordsman. Armor keeps me alive. I can do a decent bit of stuff whithout buffs, but on the advanced planets it takes an overly long time to run any missions. As a Trandoshan swordsman I can't use specials often(especially unbuffed) without draining my mind and action pools. Traps help a lot, but again are a tremendous drain on my action pool unbuffed. My mind and action secondaries are maxed out and I'm using 69% kinetic ubese leggings, chest, and helmet. I only wear the helmet for the hard stuff. Just curious

I am all for buffs and armor. If I am out hunting something weak, I may not use either, but I tend to stick to the harder stuff where one mistake means death (note to self: never go afk while spamming headshot at Black Sun NPCs). If I fing I am killing things more quickly than they kill me, I will skip the armor. One thing to remember is that the type of mob you are fighting, and your profession really determines what kind or armor you need, or if you need it at all.

Hello fellow Rangers,

Regarding armor and/or buffs...

If I'm by my lonesome and hunting anything that isn't uber-tough, no armor. No buffs. I just don't need it... but then again, my combat profession is rifleman (4-1-0-4, I think... heh).

Now, bump me up to something with over 7k HAM... if there's more than one, buffs are nice as a way of being able to hunt on a quicker-than-glacial-till timeline...

Group missions? Unless there's like a crafter or something, I'm usually the weakest... so armor me up, buff me up! No sense in dying and having everyone laugh at me... heh.

But for YOU? A swordsman? I don't think I'd leave the door without armor and buffs... that's just silly! I humbly suggest you make friends with a doctor and agree to gather resources for him/her in exchange for free buffs. That's the deal I got with my Guild's doctors...

Stay safe and go get 'em!

as a human 4-2-0-2 rifleman, I'm not sure if this helps, but here's my 2 credits on armor/buffs:

before the last patch, I would enter combat without armor or buffs, only throwing my armor on in an emergency. Being a rifleman, this isn't as hard as beign a melee combatant. Since the patch, I have given away most of my pieces of armor, since the delays have all but eliminated the "in case of emergency" application for armor. Also, I still don't use buffs, but in case of specials I try to find good food to help the bars I need.

All in all, I've had to adjust my playstyle quite a bit in order to continue avoiding buffs and armor. I have to be far more careful now than I did before, but after spending a ton of time dying last week I've been honing my strategies.

I used to play a melee last fall before buffs and armor became good things. I was a fencer with no armor, and nobody was buffing, and I died all the time. I had to take a reasonable amount of medic skills in order to survive an encounter.

I guess the end point of all this is that melee can be done without buffs and armor, but plan on spending some skill points picking up plenty of stim use

If i get all 9 buffs I can easily have them pay for themselves, especially after selling the hide or meat from the creatures I was getting missions for in order to get those resources. I can take stuff with up to 10k HAM 1on1 with armor and no buffs, but groups require buffs if I cant divide and conquer(is that spelled right? A certain bothan must be affecting my spelling.......). The traps are indespensible for tougher critters or groups. Blind and stun.

I only get buffs on rare occasions like going to the Geo Labs. Most of the time I just head out with nothing but Ubese armour. I've found that each planet has enough lower level critters for me to kill without the need for the buffs. Sure it may take a little longer to harvest a large amount but I enjoy exploring the planets and hunting down what I'm looking for.
