I don't know how everyone has leveled their toon, I can only speak for myself here. You may have other ways of making money other than creature harvesting but I do not and I'm sure there are others out there who also depend upon harvesting for their cash. If you are one of these then read on.

I propose that we raise the prices on the resources we all harvest. An artisan can harvest a million units of an excellent resource without even having the game running. His harvesters do the work for him and he goes and sells the effortless harvest for 10cpu and makes a fortune. A doctor sells buffs for 12K per person and rakes in the cash (minus the costs of the buff packs which he gets multiple uses out of), etc. Rangers and scouts hunt birds in the desert for days and sells for a higher credit per unitof resource but still makes less than all the other crafting professions put together. We can change this fact if we just raise the prices on the resources we harvest. We harvest the goods, we alone hold the right to price what our time was worth. Think about it next time you spend 3 days harvesting resources instead of actually having fun trying to crush the empire when the guy next to you harvests a million units of a resource, sells it for pennies ont he dime, and still makes more than you do in the long run. When we charge them for our resources we're not just charging them for the resource itself, we're charging them for the time it took us to harvest it as well.

People already buy good stuff for like 100cpu i think its shocking, ive never sold anything over 30cpu because i enjoy being a Ranger, i never went this path for money (even tho i make alot).

It's true, it's hard to make a living as a Ranger. I'm currently still a Novice Ranger. Still trying to think of ways to make a living.... Cause the time spent on harvesting animal resources is a long and tedious process (imaging hunting for Avian meat in the middle of nowhere...)

Hopefully our tracking skills will make life easier to find the right animals easily.

Ok - harvest smarter, not harder.

Avian sells wonderfully, except it takes a freaking lifetime to get a stack. So don't do it. Get hides, big stacks fast, and sell them to grinders at 2 or 3 cpu. I can get 10k hides in half the time it takes me to get 2k of avian off stupid birds - especially Corellian or Talusian avian.

Get a combat droid. Screw the harvester, takes up space and distracts you. A combat droid reduces your time on a target. With a droid out, I can take down a tortur lair (6k+ mission payout, plus 1k of hides) in less than 5 minutes. Without takes me 8-9. Saving 50% of my time means more missions.

Never harvest without it being a mission. Harvest a tortur random, you get hides/meat/bone. Harvest the same type of lair, as a mission, and you get the same amount of harvest, plus 6k, which is smarter?? If you have to solo group, so be it. No, do not pass up targets of opportunity on the way out to and back from missions, just be smart about them.

Buffs - 10k for a 3 hr doc buff, or less than 2k for 45 mins of food buffs. Your choice.

Armor - waste of money. Move your dead butt and use traps and you do not get hit. If you know tactics and can solo draw, most critters are dead before they reach you. Leave the armor at home, or better yet, at the weaponsmith shop.

The above works for me, with the provisios that I am a Master Pistoleer also. Riflepeeples may need the harvestor droid, as they can't charge in and take stuff down, they must hide and shoot. (yes I am laffing at y'all)

How well does it work? Considering I have more weapons than most vendors, a ton of stuff, 2 houses, 3 wind gennies, 3 harvestors, 3 swoops, a couple/three droid, contribute money to both my guild and my town- uh 8.8 million and counting.

not only that,

but a cross server gouge would raise prices to other people in the game, and further screw the economy that is already borked.

Im no union boss, or "legitimate businessman" but price fixing, racketeering and strikes generally hurt an unintended group.

we have been called to strike or raise prices before, and it doesnt happen.

making money shouldnt be a problem, like JB said, work smarter not harder...If you want armor, trade hides for it, if you want buffs and stims, give your doc meat, if you want BE pets... once again meat, if you want clothing.. yep, you guessed it, give your tailor hides. The reason I have a nice bank account is not due to gouging, but because I dont pay for anything i dont need to buy. I have over 12 sets of great armor, stims coming out the wazoo, and if i need buffs... my doc friend will fly to wherever i am to do so because i supply hime with avian/ herb meat for free. My chef (one of the best on the server) provides me with whatever foods i want, veghash, brandy... etc.. because i give him the best meats available.

(18.2 mil in the bank and growing)

doc buff: 4k (cost of a buffset with buying my packs from a crafting doc, I cannot stand crafting myself), holding ~3:30 .. doc buffs win for me I guess. Before ppl jump in and ponder that buffdocs operate at above 100% markup for their buffs, they don't. The buffdocs in theed or coronet usually use bivoli for their buffs, bivoli is quite expensive (I see no need for it for my habits, so I don't use it)

Disagree. On creatures with higher harvests the harvestpenalty for being grouped (sologroup to pull missions on those higher end creatures) hits too hard, the missionpayout often doesn't even compensate that loss, and nearly never does end up with better profits. However, I do not hunt grinding quality and I do not hunt for ressources not located on yavin, endor or dathomir.

Melee Rangers ofc work different here :-).

This approach enables me to fund two chars (my swordsman/doc does not generate any cash, it's a char to do dungeons, hunt nightsisters, help out the PA with buffs etc, aquired loot goes to the PA if I don't have a personal use for it) even with my kinda expensive habit not to do with anything else than the best possible including the urge for perfect slices on that "best possible" equipment. Being melee on both chars I tend to eat through armor quite fast, doesn't really help to make this habit cheaper.

And I usually do not even sell at the usual marketprices but below them at rates I consider fair and reasonable (not as low as fred, but still lower than what the market usually offers), still I feel myself in a better shape creditwise than many pure combat persons that I know.

No, I do not consider it hard to make "a living" based only on selling my harvests, not at all. And in the quite often existing times where nothing good is on the above named three planets, I have plenty of time to do other things than creature hunting .

I understand the concerns in this thread, and yes, artisans don't have to even be i nthe game to get their resources and can make 10 cpu for it. However, I have only had 1 offer for less than 35 cpu for a resource, and to put it in another perspective, I made 1.5 million credits over the course of a weekend, doing 35-50 cpu orders. I have no idea if I'll ever even use it all, since I keep getting more orders that replenish my bank account.

So the short version is that yes, it's harder for us to get our resources, and yes, we do get a slightly better price per unit for them. Do we need even higher prices per unit? I don't think so. Although I beleive the market will dictate the prices, so it could get higher regardless.

Understanding that is the key to selling (or buying) ANYTHING.

Ya im sorry but if my supplier want to only have 10k of a certain meat im going to maybe lower mine in order to sell quickly before the price plumits.

Also if damand/supply curve is steep i will be setting my organics at a premiumi thinkis at market peak, not what somone else says

I have made a decent amount of money selling resources. Most of my money has come from tracking. I generally get 50-150k per hour to track bladeback boars or albatross or what have you. I don't even go looking for this work. I log on intending to go on a POI tour and end up with tells asking if I'm for hire. True I'm at half a million creds but thats in a few hours worth of "working time". Resource hunting and tracking are both VERY lucrative in my opinion. I couldn't make jack when i was trying to make it as a DE with my first character. I would say that if you want to make money as a Ranger, NETWORKING IS KEY! Use the RIN.

im sorry i just cant see any justification to raise the prices of our resources. it will definately raise the economy, and im not sure about other servers but bloodfin's econmoy is already jacked beyond belief. if we raise are prices then the people we sale to will have to raise theirs if they want any sort of profit. and its pretty easy making money as a ranger. ive personally(and please dont take this a gloating im just using it as a personal example) have made 4mil credits in 2 days of hunting. a ranger could easily make millions upon millions. i dont honestly because i dont hunt to sale resources everyday. i get a contract that i will know i can make a few million. fill my contract. make my money and then take the next couple weeks off to do wahtever i want. like i said im not a gazillionaire but ive never dropped below 200k credits since ive mastered ranger.
