I used the heck out of it when my guild quite unsuccessfully tried to defend our base eons ago. My opinion is, people can move far to fast to make this useful UNLESS you are looking for someone in particular.

Well, back in the days of TEFs, I used to use it frequently when I'd be farming for faction points, to make sure I wasn't about to get ganked by a huge squad from the other team.
I've used it to toy with friends when they're coming to meet me, and I call out where they are or ask them about some MOB they just passed (when they're still 100's of meters away).
I've used it to find people I'm looking for.
I've used it to avoid people I'm looking to stay away from.
I've used it back when I was in a guild to tell them were the moron jedi that was opposing faction but decided to grind missions out of our town was, he was being a... well, not very pleasant, so we went out and just sort of hung around and watched him. Apparently he got a lot of visibiltiy from this and was even more unpleasant to all of us. After he tried this trick 3 or 4 times, I think he finally realized that trying to grind missions within a few hundred meters of a city that was factionally aligned against him = not a great idea.
With the GCW changes now, I don't need to worry about TEF and gank squads of PvPers when I don't want to PvP, but all the other stuff could still come in handy. I could easily see it being somewhat useful as well in planning raids and such for Special Forces (esp if you were Combatant and then couldn't be attacked, but could scout ahead). I really hope that the revamp helps Ranger to develop more in that direction.

It's fun to use to mess with people that are over the hill from you and you want to see who it is.
It's ok to use to mess with Jedi and make their pathetic lives a living hell as you find them, follow along out of radar range and keep tabs on them for the BHs.
I also use it as it has been around longer than findfriend and it's more Ranger-y to use this than findfriend. My guildies tend to get lost. I know where I am, they are the lost peoples.
Finally, use it on defense. You see a group all about the same number of meters away, you found the bad guys. If they don't move, you found a forward operating camp. Go drag a few aggros through it to say Hello.

Just wondering how many people actually use the 4th box in Tracking. I've heard of player cities hiring rangers to track people of a different faction, but I have not had anyone ask me for help in this area. I would actually love to try it...any suggestions on how to use it? I'm unfactionedand unguilded, and staying that way.

Yeah... I agree with JB.. messing with jedi is great. I mostly use it though to make sure I don't give them vis... I mean come on.. a lot of them aren't smart enough to travel far away from human contact.

I use it constantly helping the guilds BH's or my guilds jedis.

The only thing I have used it for is when either some Jedi wanted me a few others to ring an area and keep watching for the approach of BH's. But if the BH is in a large team they don't come in cautiously so they would be through your 500m radius way to fast to make it useful. So it was useful for the soloist BH or one that might be teamed with just one other. Use to use it for finding friends in an area but with /findfriend you don't need that anymore.

If I'm out hunting in the middle of nowhere and someone zooms by on a swoop, disappearing from view before I catch their name,I do a player areatrack. If it's a knownjackass (killstealer, aggro-trailer, etc.), I adjust accordingly. If I'm somewhere dangerous like dath, I do an animal and npc track as well, so I know what direction the hostiles might be coming from if the player in question is an aggro-trailer. (Not a terribly frequent encounter, butit does happen from time to time.) I'm also just nosy and very territorial about 'my' hunting grounds.
I also use it in front of starports a lot. That way, if Cryos or Reybekk or any of those types are around, I can avoid having to talk to them.
I'm kidding about that last part, of course. Well, you know, mostly.
