Thread: The new harvesting

First - a big "Thank You!" to the devs, Owen, JB, and anyone else who helped bring forth the new master ranger bonus. Very nice indeed.

BUT I noticed this while hunting on Yavin. I normally use a droid (+114) when hunting, just so that I can harvest more quickly. I tried some harvesting without him, just to see what the difference was.

1 unit.

My droid was only harvesting 1 more unit of meat that I was by myself. Has anyone else seen this?

Yep, there are plenty of threads on this already. Basically, the droid isn't included in the bonus so an MR will now out-harvest a droid most (all?) of the time.

Bit of a pain for you if you're a Rifle like me but I weigh up the efficiency of rifle, prone, knocking stuff from a distance and sending Harv to get the stuff against me running around and it probably evens out. Not too fussed and still harvesting with droids depending on the situation.

My lower level droid that used to harvest more than me now harvests less than me. Between 1 and 10 units less, after veghash and depending on creature. I'm still unsure if I should use it or not at the moment.

Cons :

Droid now harvests slightly less than me.

Have to wait 15 secs to call if hunting via missions.

Droid is slow to harvest between kills.

Pros :
I don't have to run about like a headless chicken to harvest.

Sometimes I miss stuff by hand when things pile up.

My droid fires traps too.

This is when solo hunting of course. A droid is currentlyuseless when in a group.

Ok, just so I can be crystal clear on this, does a harvest droid with a storage module really put the harvested resources inside itself? I've got a good friend who is a DE and I think this is one experiment the two of us have never run.

Thanks in Advance

Yes. If the harvesting droid also has a storage module, it will auto store the resources inside itself rather than placing them into your inventory.

Master Ranger Harvests: 100.0 %

7 Rated Droid Harvests: 90.4 %

56 Rated Droid Harvests: 100.1 %

116 Rated Droid Harvests: 109.7 %

The initial result of the research has shown that if I'm willing to give up the 9.7% that my Top-Of-The-Line 116 rated HD was pulling in, then I could easily have a droid constructed that harvest just as much as me, but also has room for a additional modules. Using Level 6 (the best) droid harvest modules, a DE should be able to construct a "Ranger's Little Helper (tm)" droid with three harvest modules, a storage modules (which will automatically hold the harvested resources), a trapping module, and a medical module (for quick healing without having to pull a camp).

If it turns out to be true that our droids will no longer harvest more than a Master Ranger then I have no reason not to immediately commission my new droid . It should be noted by the way, that HD's, even at a 114 or higher rating not being able to out havest a Master Ranger with a 150 harvest rating is consistent with what we understand to be the base formula for how HD's work. Which is to say; now that we have a higher harvest rating than the Droid, we wash the formula out. A Master with a rating of 150 using a HD with a rating of 116is like my example above where a Master with a rating of 100 was using an HD with a rating of 57.

Good work! This confirms what I have thought for a while. Prior to the latest patch a droid had to have a bonus of +50 or higher in order for it to be of benefit to a Master Ranger. If no other numbers have changed, then it follows that now a +75 droid would now bethe base. I have only tested briefly with my +76 droid and I found that this actually harvested between 1 and 10 units less, but I think this was after I had also had +32 veghash, so maybe this effects it too. I will do some more testing tonight. If veghash does indeed need to be taken into consideration then the new 'base'should be around 110. Can anyone with a 110 droid confirm that their droid harvests at least the same as them with veghash (solo I mean, not grouped with players)?
