Thread: Tracking for income question

Hello fellow Rangers!

I have just began selling my services by tracking down the Moisture Farmer, Boar, and Pirate Leader for people who are doing the Hero of Tatooine quest. So far I have asked for 150K per find but my customers are actually saying that I am not charging enough and that my services are worth much more than that. Shocking huh? Anyway, for those of you who have tracked for cash before, what would be a fair asking price?

Thanks!

i'll be honest thats way to little to do tracking for ide go for between 250-500k on the hero quests. If your going for jedi trial animals 500-700k per hour. though to be honest i hate tracking for people (annoying kids in the back seat kind of feeling) getting a "have you found it yet?" tell every 3 minutes gets on my nerves real quick. So from now on to keep people away i simple say no thanks, and if they persist i say 50mil per hour. That usually does it.

There was a really good post about this that I now can't find but I built my prices on it...

Basically, I charge 200k for one hour non-negotiable and not dependent on finding anything. It's for my time, not the result. If I do find what they are after, they owe me a further 500k.

It's lucrative but also really dull hence the high prices.

LMAO... so true.

Now, to the point of the thread... I definitely suggest doing some searches on the ranger board as there have been several very good threads on this topic with lots of great insight.

My short version... you get paid to use your /areatrack ability and not your /findanythingrightnow command... Therefore, I typically charge by the hour. 500k an hour has become my new standard but that varies. If I know I can find it quick (e.g. sintrail prowler) I might charge 500k up front and 500k upon find... and this is mostly to compensate for the fact that the only reason I am efficient is because I am a skilled ranger with specifically good knowledge on a particular creature, which deserves compensation.

In the end, charge what makes you feel right. If you're perfectly happycharging 150k per find, then great. In my experience, there was a direct correlation between 3 factors: Increased tracking jobs leads to increased tracking jadedness which inevitably leads to higher prices.

Again, search the forums... lots of great discussion on this topic.

Cheers

I guess I undercharge, then. I have been telling people 100K per hour on the hour, payable in advance regardless of success. Most have no problem with this at all. Most also have no patience whatsoever and I really hate that. That freaking /tell beep is becoming the bane of my existence.

It is exactly like the kids in the back seat screaming, "Are we there yet?" It gets really old, really fast. They don't seem to understand that it is my time they're wasting while they happily play whack-a-bol in the meantime. They also have no concept that they may not get what they want. Bunch of...

/wanders off grumbling about kids who get everything they want without working for it

Remember guys, every server has a different economy, and therefore, every server has different amounts that can be charged for various services.

On Bria, I have the following "price plan".

For "rare" spawns, ie Jedi trials, Hero of Tat, I charge a fee of 500k every 1.5 hours. Works out to 1 mil a buff session. If they want my help fighting, they also pay for my buffs.

For an organic contract, (meat, hide, bones, eggs, milk) I usually won't take the contract unless I'm getting at least 60cpu. I'd rather hunt at my leisure and end up with a bunch of different meat I can sell at 10-30 cpu, then have to concentrate on one planet, on one type of creature, for hours or days on end to get some guy 60k of Avian Meat.

Other spawn tracking, It depends on my mood. If a CH asks me to help them track down a rare baby, I'll usually do it for free. Most CH's are smart, know what they're doing, and are fun to go out into the wilderness with.
