Thread: Creature-to-Hit Bonus
This may bediscussed somewhere else... but I couldnt find it.
Anyone else think that the Creature-to-Hit bonus should apply to all types of combat, and not just ranged?
I am a brawler ranger and would like to have this little added bonus to my attacks, but from what the description says and from what a CSR said, it only applies to ranged attacks, and is working as intended.
Anyone else?
Creatue-to-hit bonus would probably sway PvP a bit too much. It's not that a Master Gunfighter doesn't know where to shoot a person to kill them, it's that a Master Gunfighter may not know where to shoot an animal or be able to predict how a particularanimal is going to move, how much lead to give an animal that is so big or small that judging the leading shot could be hard (big animals look closer than they actually are), etc. A Master Ranger knows all of the above information and can use it while taking down an animal.
Anyway, that's my role-playing answer to why Master Rangers havea +25 to hit a creature.

Does anyone know what the modifier the creature-to-hit bonus does?Does this cause me to hit harder with ranged weaponsordoes this improve my chance to hit? If it does increase the damage, how do i caluculate how much it will help? For example if iama carbineer and would shoot for 1000 damage normally, how much would ato-hit bonus of 10 add to the damage?
Thanks for all the help.
"Does this cause me to hit harder with ranged weaponsordoes this improve my chance to hit?"
- My understanding of the skill is that it improves your chance to hit.
- This is more useful for ranged fighters who are "running and gunning" (as moving reduces your chance to hit).
- For all intents and purposes none of really know if it does anything at all. ![]()
- There have been threads in the past regarding this skill and its effect, and there is no clear consensus.
-----
- On the meleer note:
- We have no idea whether the skill description is simply incorrect, or whether the bonus does indeed apply only to ranged weapons
- There have been suggestions regarding changing the effect of the skill to a Creature-to-Dodge skill for melee fighters.
- However, several ofmelee fighters would prefer the to-hit bonus.
- At my current level of TK, I rarely miss my attacks, so if the to-hit is not being applied already, I would like to see the to-Dodge bonus.
- Either way, we'll need confirmation from the developer whether this skill is working as intended. ![]()
Pax and NRass:
Creature-to-hit bonus increases chance of hitting creature, whether you're prone, kneeling, standing, or running for your life while screaming "SHHHHHIIIIIII-----"
Creature-to-hit bonus definitely increases your chances of killing an animal.Just beforeyou gain your next level with that bonus, pay attention to the threat conditions on animals. When you get your bonus they will con lower than they used to.

Just becuase they are considering lower, does not mean that the bonus is actually being applied.
After observation, I am pretty sure that the code used to calculate the threat level of a creature is not the same code that actually applies the to-hit bonus.
I also noticed that a creatures threat levelwas reduced as I climbed up the Scout and Ranger professions, but I never actually noticed an increase in hit frequency.
I started on my Ranger profession well after I had acheived Rifle and Ranged Support Specialist so those findings could have been tainted while I was a Scout, but not once I started to advance as a Ranger.
Speaking for the Swordsmen/persons I don't miss much but I do miss enough that I think the bonus is not being applied. With the new movement changes I seem to miss a lot more with the rifle then the sword anyway... but that is an issue for the Rifleman forum.
(odd this holds true while no one is moving...)
