I brought this topic up a while back and I just state again my opinion. I thought that most Rangers would be rebels due to our tendency to be loners. Some people responded and it was mostly rebels and neutrals.

On my server in Naboo I know lots of Imps and I became an Imp myself. The reasons for me becoming an Imp instead of a Rebel was simple. Most of the people that I encountered that were mature and friendly were Imps. The rebels by my experience were a bunch jerks.

They would demand training without being polite and wouldn't bother to tip me. I was kinda disappointed I was ready to be a rebel but I just met the wrong group first. I have seen rebels here on the Ranger board that are pretty cool. Wish they were on my server but life is pretty funny, especially in a game.

Why are you expecting a tip anyway?

I play my Ranger as Neutral with sympathy for the Rebels at this point if only because he rejects authority and ruling parties. But at the same time he doesn't want to take orders from Rebels either...

Whooo man.. Not all Rebs are like that. I have met those kind of players in both factions. Now what may give that impression is that there are a lot more Rebs than Imps. Figure it like this if 10 percent of all players are tacky like that (I just made up the 10% number) and you have 1000 Imp players 100 of them will be tacky. 100000 Reb players and 1000 will be tacky, your chances of running across a tacky Reb are greater. (again just made up numbers, I have heard it is really something like 4/1 Rebs favor). Its just the probability of meeting up with a fool that is greater. Personally I only have one person on my ignore list..and he is an IMP, like me! While I will certainly shoot a Reb on sight I don’t think that they hold them market in being tacky, honestly most of the tacky players I have meet have been new to the game, it just takes them a while to run into someone that would teach them some manners.

Here is an example of manner teaching:
I loged on a new server. When I got there with my brand new character I was invited to a group.. cool! But I told them I was a new character and they would have to let me get some XP or I would just need to solo for a while, they all agreed. I had a sweet waypoint that I shared with the group. We went into this cave and they let me get like 400 XP. This was even after I asked them to hold fire for a minute so I could so some damage. I mean come on it wasn’t like I was taking all theirs ..I had a Cdef for crying out loud!. I didn’t say much.. till they asked me for another waypoint. Then it was manner time. I explained to them why what they had done was wrong, and showed lack of consideration. And then said to make it up to me they had to give me 500 credits (not a lot but it went to point) of course one of them started with all this you’re a newb stuff (this comming from a Novice Marksman).. I was patient, I explained to her that while my toon on that server was a newb I was not, in fact I was a Master Ranger on a different server, and that was not the way we treated group members where I came from, honestly 1000 XP doesn’t mean a lot to me, but it means a lot to new toons just starting to level. The other 4 group members all apologized and gave me the credits (I immediately gave them back). And the one player was kicked from the group, not by me. Was she sorry, heck I don’t know, but I do know that chances are she will not repeat the mistake of not being considerate of her group members in the future, when I run with a new toon in one of my groups I always ensure that they get theirs, or I just don’t invite them in. The point being it sometime takes people a while to realize that we are dependant upon one another and that other players are not NPC’s, I try to cut them some slack and don’t hold it against them, Something to bear in mind when dealing with rude players, chances are you have something they want, there are many times training has been demanded of me rudely and I have said “You know man..that was a pretty rude way of asking, try again and include 500 credits this time” They always say what is the 500 for..I tell em it’s the rude fine, either pay and ask nice or seek your training elsewhere I don’t need the points” I always return the money and I would like to think that they walk away with a bit more humility. Sometimes they don’t pay..but I bet they remember. My golden rule when dealing with rude players is to tell them why they were rude and demand something from them for them being that way.. seems to work from me. I never keep the money its the lesson that is important.

I play as imp, I just like it. I have a tendency to be pretty neutral with most other people. neutrals and reb's alike.

- I play an Imperial.

- The reason is simply that it makes the most sense during this time period to be an Overt Imperial, than an Overt Rebel. We are still in control of the Galaxy (for the moment), so being an Overt Rebel feels out of place.

- Anyways, Imperials get the best toys...

For me, it was largely a question of luck.

I started on Corellia, a largely rebel planet. I ran a lot of rebel missions to try it out and I'm a rebel because of it. If I started on Naboo, I'd probably be an imp.

I am a Bothan Information gatherer and hunter. I am Imperial since they pay better and have snazzier uniforms

Japhy Ranger training is expensive as you know. I think 500 credits wouldn't kill anyone. It's a nice way of showing appreciation that you took time to help them and you saved themprobably several thousand credits.

I'd rather you ask for a fee, than to expect a tip is all.

I paid 2k to a Rebel Ranger for Wayfair 4 because it is his policy, free for Rebels, full price for Imps, and 1/4 for Neutral. I didn't care that he asked for cash and he made his policy known right from the start.

When I train, I don't expect or even wanttips and would never charge a fellow Ranger for the training, but that's just me.

- Agreed. If someone is expecting a tip, then it not really a tip anymore... Rather its more a payment for services rendered.

- If you make it known that you want payment for training up front, then I see no problem.

- Ifsomeone complains aboutnot getting tipped, when they did not ask for it to begin with, then they should work on their order of operations ("ask first for payment, then train... I got it now.").

- Personally I never expect a tip... Trainees are spending their time and effort to track me down, I don't expect them to pay me as well.

- BUT... I never turn down a gratuity. That would just be rude.

To me we are offering a valuable service. Those NPC Rangers are not everywhere and not cheap as you all know.

Look I understand what you are saying that you shouldn't expect a tip. But I think it is being polite to give one or to thank that person a lot. Sucking up goes a long way with me.

I will go out of my way to meet up with the person, heck I have gone offworld to do them the favor. I think the very least they can do is thank you in a real nice way or give you a tip.

I understand that might not be the Ranger way or whatever but it is how I feel.
