Thread: After a long while away from SWG...

...what has changed?

I played quite a bit of SWG when it was first released. Being unemployed is like that. After maybe 3 months (October) I was bored and fed up with the many problems in the game. But I felt it had a lot of (unrealized) promise and I decided that I may give it another shot after the coming summer, if I have some better hardware for the monster to run on.

So here we are. I'm back. I was able to jump right back in where I last logged off in a little cluster of buildings outside of Moenia on Naboo. Long story short - I remember so little of how to play the game that I almost feel I'd be better off starting over. But I'm a Master Ranger already, and I like that.

So what's changed in the past 10 months for Rangers (and Scouts)? Do I still have to maintain a network of warehouses to store the insane variations of animal materials? Is Conceal still equivalent to running through the woods wearing nothing but a red cape while screaming like a dying thing? Are animal materials part of the economy yet? Is it still possible to walk across planets without seeing other players for any real length of time?

So many questions, and I'm still trying to figure out which abilities come from which skill trees again.

Picking through this forum briefly I didn't see any names I recognized except the Antarian Rangers, of course, and Nraas (from older posts people are still replying to). So, greets all. Thanks in advance for any advice you have!

Welcome back!

Much of the stuff you noticed broken (factories and such) are fixed. Game play has gotten better, but I must admit that one thing is better, and I tend to find more of them than not, and that is "good people"!

Not much more for Scouts and Rangers, areatrack and camo kits if I time your return correctly

I just came back, too, but I've only been away six months. If you haven't played since October, I guess one of the big changes is the introduction of vehicles. With vehicles, non-Rangers can now ride through the bad lands in safety because they can outrun anything that aggros them. On the plus side, I found a lot of cool terrain features that I most likely would not have seen if I didn't have a vehicle. Made me appreciate the work that went into the terrain design for areas that hardly anyone's going to see.

Welcome back. Most of the changes are covered above so I'll just leave it here.

hehe - yep, there is really good money to be made selling animal materials, and yes it is still possible to walk across planets without seeing other players, but wait... it gets even better, on many servers you can now walk across entire planets without even seeing a single npc and or animal. Maskscent works a lot better now --not because they fixed it, but because so many planets are now so devoid of critters that there are none around to detect you.

hehe - I'm exagerating a bit, but some nights it does feel like this. I'm not lying about the animal materials though -- they are more in demand than ever before.
