I thought I'd post this beaut of a poem from the 8th Century. It's pretty rangery as I'm sure you'll all agree, and it goes some way to answer the Why? question other professions ask us.

Green Mountain
--------------
You ask me why I dwell in the green mountain;
I smile and make no reply for my heart is free of care.
As the peach-blossom flows down stream and is gone into the unknown,
I have a world apart that is not among men.

Li Po, 701-762ad

Great stuff.

sounds like a ranger camp fire song (like when Vigo Mortisen was singing around the fire in the marshes in Lotr: The Fellowship).

Oh making me feel all rangerish inside

I've occaisionaly been found clutching the edge of the bar in various cantinas across several galaxies reciting / singing:

My Heart's In The Highlands
"Failte na Miosg"

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.

Farewell to the mountains, high-cover'd with snow,
Farewell to the straths and green vallies below;
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods,
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.

by Robert Burns, 1789

I'm definitely making a macro of this.

Not a recursive one of course... I save all the cursing macros for when I'm REALLY drunk.
