This just makes me hate my ranger who has been a master ranger since day one. Let me respec and be done with this idiocy.

Decided to add more on this. Because I chose a ranger for the very abilities they are doing away with.

Why does it make you hate your Ranger?

Other than removing tracking, which is arguably broken but fixable, and finally taking forage and rescue out of the game, what have they done that removes any of your Ranger skills?

All the working parts of Ranger are to be moved down and spread into the Scout tree. So you'd still be the top harvester, creature centric combat profession that you are currently, just with added flavour if you choose to keep SP invested in the new Ranger tree or the possibility of picking up a second combat profession if you choose to drop out of Ranger.



New HOWTO: Gather Milk, Fish, Mollusk, etc.

i think what he's trying to say is that its going to be suck because we're gonna be hated upon by everyone else because of all these new abilities, and well this forum was my only safe haven for not having to read hate tell posts and jedi nerf bat posts and other stupid stuff of the like

The new ranger is really interesting. Ranger is going to become just that, a Ranger. A military ranger. Specialist at insertion/extraction, sabotage, espionage. Sounds so James Bond. I think I found my profession for my alt.

Retracted until I can clearly communicate what's so troubling about this revamp. I'm trying to capture "why I log into my MRanger account" every day as a way of doing so.

It would seem that as a master scout, you will probably have most all the skills, where harvesting is concerned. Traps, and Harvesting, and probably some camps will move to scout. Then, as a ranger, you can conceal and cover, move stealthily through the environment. That is a new item and can see alot of good from it.


If you are guilded, and factioned, then you just became a groups mvp, next to sl. being able to conceal team members, set explosives, and booby traps. Wow! Just wow!. Look at the potential.

Rangers will be Rangers if this goes live. Just not Rangers based on a Fantasy premise but based more on a modern or future premise. You can still be a Fantasy based Ranger with Master Scout and then pick up Ranger or parts of Ranger to add flare. All of the Ranger talents that went into hunting appear to be shifted to scout. I know this doesn't make some happy but this was the inevitable outcome of any Revamp. Our forum has been split on whether Ranger should be creature hunter or Spec Ops for some time. SOE could never make both camps happy and I resigned myself long ago to be happy with either approach just as long as SOE fully implemented one or the other. Ranger will now be PvP relavant and that is important in a game the devs want to make about the GCW

And being called apon to find resources and people. I get tells daily from chefs and armorsmiths askin me to get good stuff. The pay is good, but it is the challenge of the hunt, milking i could do without, so now we just have to see how the changes go. Lets not turn this into a winefest like on the jedi forum.

You'll have everything you have today ( plus your Hunter title from Scout Hunting 4 ) and extra skill points to build the "Ranger" you've always wanted but couldn't have

Talk about weird timing. I come back (albeit more casually this time) from a 3 month hiatus to find out about this revamp.

Sure, I'm shocked. Yes, I will miss tracking and all what we've become accustomed to as rangers. However, this looks interesting enough to give it a shot. I just hope it's not a huge bungling failure at a prof's redefinition.

We have discussed this sort or revamp before (actually, we've been discussing different possibilities for revamps over the past two years, we were prepared for anyting ). At the moment, Ranger is simply "Scout plus" with tracking and this is why it has always lacked a defining role. However, this revamp makes Ranger a pure 100% beef of a profession, not some diluted enhancement of Scout. If you don't like the new changes, then fine, stay Master Scout since 'by the sounds of it'* you'll have all the Ranger camps, creature harvesting skills, traps and trapping skills. It also solves the skill point problem, allowing you to invest skills in medic and other professions.

*Of course there is a chance I could be wrong. They still haven't given specifics but this would seem a logical move and is hinted at by the first bullet point:
"Scout skills and modifiers have been redistributed throughout the scout skill trees to reflect the needs of the new profession. In addition many of the Ranger abilities have also been moved into the Scout profession."
