I'm a fairly new player still but have decided that a 2nd Character is required to help me with my spenduing habbit...

After reading a few posts on here I had settled on MAster Ranger/Master Rifleman but I have a few questiosn first.

Firstly are there enough skill points for both, as I know I will need Rifles IV under Marksman, and Master Scout.

Secondly How do I get trapping and camping xp? And how easy is it?

Thirdly does Ranger help with surveying and resource gathering? Do you get better or more meat off an animal with it? WHat are the benefits? And I presume Rangers can use harvestors to gather resources. What are the best harvestors tio get once youhave found a rich place to harvest? I have enough credits to get the best equipment to get me started and to sustain both characters for a short while but not indefinately but for the moment money isn't too much of a concern....I got 4x4x Scout last time within 2 days.....

Thanks

Check out the FAQ's in the Scout and Ranger forums for your answers. The way to master ranger is exactly the same as the way to master scout.

Yes we harvest more then a scout and we get that from the tracking line. No we dont help with surveying since we arent artisans

Yes there are enough skillpoints to do master rifle/master ranger and even have 18 left over for CH or novice medic.

you will have enough sp to get both master ranger and master marsman with a few left over to get some skill in some thing like nov ch or medic, trapping and camping xp is done the same way as scout by using traps, camping, fishing, and the crafting of camps and traps gives you a small amout of wilderness xp too.

you will find that the camping section of the ranger takes the longest to get and it is a long slow grind but you can master ranger in under 2 weeks if you put your mind to it and your heart is in getting master.

as for the bounses the master ranger gets +160 creature harvest, and give a 40% bonus on harvest when in a group, plus as you do with scout you can use a harvest driod.

if you like to go out hunting and you are not into pvp then master ranger is a must and you will have fun getting it, i hope this helps you out a little

I am a slow typer so someone will probably beat me to the answers. /grin THIS is a fun program (a little out of date, does not have JTL stuff) that can help you figure out skill point costs.

Ranger is exactly like scout, except that you harvest more off of animals, and get the ability to /areatrack to see what kind of animals are in the immediate area. It does not help with surveying - that is an artisan skill - and you do not get harvesters for organic or inorganics. You have to actively hunt all your resources.

There are several things that can boost your harvest.

- Grouping with someone will increase your harvest 20%, grouping with another Ranger will increase your harvest 30% and grouping with a Master Ranger will increase your harvest by 40%

- Harvest droids (droids with harvesting modules installed) will give you an increase to your harvest as well. However, they are bugged right now and do not harvest the correct amounts when you are grouped with other people and getting the group bonuses. Solo they will still give you a bonus. They also harvest for you. So you can target a corpse and /tellpet harvest and it will run up to the corpse and harvest it. This is useful for Riflemen because then you dont have to get up, run to the corpse, and then run back to optimal distance for sniping.

- Veghash is a food you can eat that will increase your harvest mod.

I would check the Links and geniuses thread for more information. There is a ton of stuff in Ranger that is very fun and interesting. Trap droids, HTFBs, camo kits, etc.

Enjoy yourself!

You wil have enough skillpoints to master both Ranger (Master Scout required) and Rifleman (Marksman 4xxx required) with enough skillpoints to either get the Ranged Support line of Marksman up to IV or take the Novice box of any other basic profession (Novice Medic is ever-popular) plus one box in that profession.

Trapping is not that hard to level, just keep some of every type of traps you can make in your hotbar and throw one of each at the mobs before you engage in actual combat. Note that traps DON'T work on NPCs and using the same type of trap several times on a mob once it has been hit does nothing. Therefore, keep AS MANY types ready as you can craft.

Camping is probably the hardest part to level, but there are ways to speed it up:
-Crafting traps yields Survival XP (note the 5% xp bonus for practice mode crafting!)
-Camp just outside a major city (Coronet for example) and people will visit your camp from time to time for a small xp boost
-Get some pets/droids/vehicles and keep on calling/storing them, the increased visitor count gives max XP faster

Ranger does not help Surveying, except for better terrain negotiation and Mask Scent, which come in handy. ut no bonuses...
Rangers have no need for harvesters, as you harvest organic resources off of dead critters (bone/hide/meat), milk from living female critters, eggs from lairs (radial menu: Search lair) or seafood (using a fishing pole and bait, which can be foraged)

Hope this helped....

You could always use the tried and true method of looking for 15 or more mid/high level harvestors in an area and place a harvestor of the same type. Chances are someone already did the leg work for you

Yes you can master both Ranger/Scout and Rifleman which is 3 Masters and I believe you will have 18 SP left over.

Ever seen a how long it takes a pure crafter to walk 500 m on Dath? lol.

Man those 18 skill points roam for me. Mostly they ping pong back and forth between Artisan and Medic.

If I'm droping a harvester I'm droping it on a good spot! I drop my medic skills like a hot potato when something good pops. Just made a killing on Tat fiberplast. Its not like I don't know the people that need it Tulsian Water, YAY! Class 4 Petro? Hot Damn!

Pop quiz - Class 7 Radioavtive high OQ and PE, power or ingredient?

Surveying with as Ranger? MUCH easier, lol. Have you all been Rangers so long that you forgot what places like Endor are like with out /maskscent or /conceal?

There are people with the whole surveying line the PAY ME to find good spots for them. Why? I think you can answer that one for your self.

There can be as much or as little to being a Ranger as you want.

It's 150 at master ranger. (the master box gives +60 to your total though)

MTV,
This List details survival xp for crafting certain items (in addition to getting survival xp for camping and fishing).

Also, just curious.. what made you decide to choose Ranger?

You seem to be keen on mining resources out of the ground too. This has nothing to do with Rangers. Mining can be done by anybody with a harvester, but only somebody with novice artisan can find out where the high concentrations are etc. You may want to spend your extra 18sp (after MR and M. rifles) on artisan 0/0/0/1.

The artisan forum has a great section with all the information you ever wanted on mining (and likely more thanyou ever wanted). Check there for the answers to this part of your question.

The parts seem to have been answered already so I won't belabour the point.
