Thread: Antarian Ranger proposal

Quite short and to the point.
Antarian Rangers are those supposedly the "bodyguards" to the jedi right? In the current "TEF" system no group member can come to the defence of their jedi friend. This is quite frustrating when you see your mate being mashed by a bounty hunter. But how would people feel if Rangers (and just rangers) grouped with a Jedi could fight any attacking bounty hunters? Im not suggesting this to unbalance the current BH/Jedi combat, its simply there as a "roleplaying" aspect of the game. For the short time I was bodyguarding it was suprisingly alot of fun.

That limits us by roping us into the protector role. What about us Antarian Heretics who want to hunt jedi?

Always stirring the pot aren't ya al!
I agree though, roleplaying is really optional in this game and I feel that this would pigeon hole the role of rangers too much.

Are constant tells asking to find this and track that not enough, now I get tells wanting me to babysit theannoying littlelight stick wavers as well?!

I like the idea, actually. It'd let me actually RP an Antarian Ranger properly, since I doubt the BH would care to pause and duel me for show. There's nothing to saya grouped Ranger *has* to step in.
Or let us flag ourselves as Antarian or not, and if we are, then we can step in--if not, we can't. (I'd like the tagging to not be visible, though--or optionally so--since it'd make sense that many AR's are underground, seeing as how they were hunted as much as the Jedi were.)

I'm for it. I'm at the ground level for re-starting the AR on Gorath and this new system has already thrown a wrench in my plans. I've had to do some creative thinking to actually make the AR interesting again.

I think it could be fun, but it should be optional, because not all rangers will want to, but those of us that do want to try it should have the option.

A good amount of discussion here, which is nice. First to address a number of concerns raised.

Freedom of choice is a wonderfull thing. Perhaps there could be a seperate ranger tag searchable from the community window? Perhaps rangers can just politely so "no thankyou"?

Exactly, the bounty hunter could be attackable to the Ranger, and only if attacked does the ranger become a target for the bounty hunter. The Ranger can choose to just stand aside, if for example you happen to be in a solo group with a Jedi, you wouldnt want a "jedi tef" forced upon you. This is what Im trying to get at, everything in this system is voluntary.
I see this as no different to any other Ranger skill. You can choose not to hunt, people may ask you to, you say no. You can choose not to track, people may ask you to, you say no. You can *choose* not to protect jedi, people may ask, you can say no. But for those that *do*, it adds a new aspect to the game, more content, more things to do, more ways to earn money, more ways to meet people. If youre hired by a jedi who turns about to be a complete glowbat monkey, then dont work with them again, tell your ranger friends and get him black listed even.
I understand theres a stigma associated with Jedi and Bounty Hunters. But just as Rangers dont want to be pidgeon holed as "Scouts Plus", should we really pidgeon hole all Jedi and Bounty Hunters as annoying glowbat wavers?
