Thread: New Trap Ideas

We've been talking a lot recently about traps vs. weapons and I've come out kinda on both sides of the fence. On the one hand, I want for a Ranger to be able to do damage themselves, on the other, I think having a wide variety of states to apply is a cool idea. One way to get around that is to make traps experimentable in either damage or duration of effect or likelihood of state to hit and number per pack. make a ranger be tactical when making traps.

Now along those lines, I've been trying to come up with new traps that would work in the new system and give us a unique set of skills and a role on the battlefield.

  • L-Darts (or a new trap) should slow down warmup and cool-down timers, making an animal or player take longer between shots. It works on a percentage modifier, so if you trap a rifleman when they're doing a powerful special....you'll be able to plunk away for a while. There should also be an AoE version in Ranger.

  • Vehicular Ground traps-- instant dizzy+KD off of vehicles and does a bit of damage to the bike.

  • AoE rooting trap

  • "Stickyfoot" ground traps that remove a persons' ability to mitigate their armors' movement hinderance, making them choose between moving really slow or taking off armor. Could also be used to remove up to half of a persons' TN bonus. An "anti-ranger" style trap.

  • Ion-based traps to work on droids and turrets

  • Traps that hinder firing speed & accuracy

  • Double crossbow to launch two traps at once (certed at Trapping II in Ranger)

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

You and your derned Crossbow...

Although, I do want our traps to be more effective. And I think if we made them damage dealing then we'd be more of a combat profession, right? Not that I want to get into that.

I'm all for working traps. As it is, I don't really see that much of a difference when using them.

Phen way to go. This thinking outside of th box is what I think we need. I'm particularly interested in the warm up and cool down idea.

I'm a big fan of these!

yeah, I'll admit the warmup/cooldown timer one was the one that kinda set this all in motion.

just think guys. we now get to consider tons of new traps because of the way the system is changing. i kinda like possibilities.

I like the idea of a trap that can snare you and change your pants into a pair of those nasty hawtpants. Of course there should be a area version in ranger.
