Considering the resists, it makes sense - assault is kinetic protection. It just doesn't make sense considering the name.

/curls up into ball and hides in corner...
Not this topic again.
It's Calc's favorite discussion though!
j/k Calc
Seriously though, it's been discussed a million times, so sorry if I sound sarcastic.
At any rate, I'll reply again with my same points..
Also, you mentioned assault (higher kinetic resist).. Rangers are only certed for Battle armor (even kinetic/energy resists), not assault. But both are superior choices over recon for a PvE ranger. Battle is the best choice for overall PvE hunting.

- Why is having armor that prevents mostly energy so important, when creatures deal mostly kinetic damage.
- "Recon" armor is just a name given to the armor skins.

I agree with Kimi - why do you want armor that gives energy protection? Most of our skills center around fighting creatures - the majority of which do kinetic. I kind og like the armor we have since it is the most balanced. Even if I personally can't stand the looks of the wookiee version.

I had to delete my original reply... Kimi covered things better than I would have.

Just something to remember.
Battle Armor is a balanced armor the Energy and Kinetic resist are the same.
So for instance an Unlayered suit of Battle Armor caps at 6000 for Kinetic and Energy.
Recon armor unlayered caps at 7000 Energy and 5000 Kinetic.
Assault is unlayered caps at 7000Kinetic and 5000 Energy.
Hard numbers on armor resist values.
1000 = 10.5%
2000 = 20.0%
3000 = 28.5%
4000 = 36.0%
5000 = 42.5%
6000 = 48.0%
7000 = 52.5%
8000 = 56.0%
9000 = 58.5%
10000 = 60%
Now there is not much difference between 6000 and 7000 for unlayered armor but looik at the difference between 6000 and 5000 or lower. Now when you make armor and use Kinetic or Energy Layers. they oppose each other so if you boost Kinetic resistyou lower Energy resist by an equal amount.
So lets say you boost your recon armor from 7000 to 8000 you have lowered your kinetic resist from 5000 to 4000. I would prefer to keep the measley 12% protection I get by wearing Battle armor over recon or assault armor.
No armor is uber anymore. It all comes down to hown your armorsmith made the armor for you. I prefer a balanced approach. It keeps my options open when hunting.
If the MOB melees me I am reasonably protected if they have a ranged attack I am reasonably protected.
Again Melee attacks are for the most part kinetic. Ranged attacks remember them spiders spitting poison and what not, are considered energy based attacks.

Thatnkyou for clearing it up. I was alittle mad origionally wen i posted this since i was a Mrilfe/MBH, bought my recon ST armor and on my last respec i decided to go to Mranger (MBH) for the scouting to help towards jedi. I figured that the recon profession would were recon armor and to my suporise i could no longer were my armor. So thankyou for clearifing that it is just a name.

Well, if you really want the recon armor (it's the best choice for NPCs and energy protection), you could always go Mranger/Mrifles.
You'd be fully certed for battle armor and recon.

As a Ranger, I generally don't wear any armor anyway - but it does seem to make sense that Scouts and Rangers should wear recon Scout Trooper armor. I know the resists don't match with the profession, but it is a better fit for role-playing purposes. Luckily, as a Rifleman I can wear the Scout Trooper armor when I do want to wear armor, so it isn't a problem for me.

Rangers are the eilte form of scout. We do not just sneak and peak.
We are expected to go into combat eqully versus NPCs and MOBs in the field.

Plus I think Scout Trooper armor is faction-specific, as well as profession specific right?
I do understand the confusion though. For the first 4 months of the game I would only use a scout blaster.... because I was a scout after all!

Yes, the Scout Trooper armoris for us Imperials.
Scout Trooper = Recon
Storm Trooper = Battle
Shock Trooper = Assault
