Just a thought though im not a ranger i have been in the past and i have found that as a ranger despite having to fight to be counted as combat profession you guys really need to be able to use a weapon to to do your hunting which is what your profession needs because hunting is part of the ranger identity.

My thought is that since smuggler needs pistol xp and gains mods to using weapons so should rangers afterall ranger is the largest sp investment and you guys need something to justify the cost that you pay, i think if you made rifle xp part of thetracking branch as this is what gives you creature to hit bonus and your creature knowledge i think it would fit in nicely especialy since i know a lot of you guys use rifles and it seems that the rifle is naturaly a hunting weapon. I think maybe general ranged accuracy may be a better mod than rifle accuracy so you guys arnt forced to take rifleman to compliment your profession and general ranged speed.

Also you guys need specific weapons for hunting, a hunting rifle at novice, a stronger one at tracking 4 and then a master rifle in the master box.

I know you guys have a lot of issues to get sorted out though i think this would help you guys be able to better fight out in the wilderness for a start because as a combat profession you are lacking alot of combat.

Just wondering what you guys think of this because it would start to improve your profession of course it would only be a small thing because im sure you guys would prefer more ranger like abilities and content but would something like this help you guys out in the short term?

I can appreciate the thought you've put into this, but I don't think it's a good idea. Keep in mind that smugglers require the pistol line in marksman to gain novice smuggler. There is no actual "weapon" prereq to get novice ranger. There are a lot of different types of rangers around, some melee and some ranged. Some of the ranged guys don't necessarily use rifles, either. Implementing an idea like that would be forcing all rangers to use a rifle. While I happen to enjoy long guns, not everyone else does.

It's good to see to other professions are at least thinking about us.

I didn't entirely read your post the first time, it's still a good idea, but the mods would have to be more along the lines of "general melee accuracy/speed" and "general ranged accuracy/speed".

What he said we should only get general mods so no Ranger is left out.

I do at times find myself wishing we had some specials for both ranged an melee though. I'm not exactly sure where we'd put them in the branches to keep them somewhat equally desireable.

I suppose ranged specials could be put in the camo line for a stalking hunter feel.

Melee... I dunno, maybe trapping line to have a special that could help making Rescue skill I'd use once in a while rather than never. Granted I'd have to be grouped rather than solo like I am at most times but it'd be a really nice possibility to consider. Traps generate enough "hate" as it is and I'd like to feel like we have Rescue for a reason. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

An odd way to look at it, but if we were to get good range/aim/defense bonuses, wouldn't the power class of choice be ranger instead of bounty hunter? Do we want 10,000 more rangers just because they want to be 'powerful'? I may be a respec mrifle/mranger, but it's what fits my personality and I love it. The profession as a whole is welcoming, accepts the fact that every class is bugged and doesn't complain about it heavily, and refuses to hang up their hat because of the ethos of being a ranger. I'd like to see some offense/defense bonuses be built into the class (who wouldn't), but if I can solo a nest of kimogila's already (one at a time of course) and don't bother with armor now, I'd rather see some traps added in (instead of just our 'grenades') and other ranger abilities.

Yeah, I have been trying to think up creative specials that aren't power based, but instead interactive with our current abilities and wouldn't change the shape and feel of our profession. The last thing I'd want is a bunch of damage specials to attract FOTMers and power players.
