Thread: Any reason to increase Creature Knowledge skill?
I'ma CH and a master scout. I took up novice ranger since I had the xp and the points and knew I could sell the skill back if I needed the points back. I've been training up the Skill that adds to Creature Knowledge and Creature Harvesting.
My question is, is there any point to going up that line for a CH? I mean, is there anything that I'm going to be able to learn about a creature that I /examine that will be beneficial to me at all? I'm far enough past master scout that I don't remember all the stats I can see now but I do remember that at the second skill box in that line, it tells you how many units of meat you get from the creature in [ ]. I do see the Special Bonuses, Restiances and Vulnerabilities tho the abilities only have dashes - in them now. Do you still have that at Master Scout, I can't remember.
Any info would be welcome and appreciated as I'm not going to keep going up that line if there is really no point to it. Thanks.
I've got Novice Ranger and the first two boxes of Field Bioscience. I believe the last box I got gives me information on what special moves the creature can do.
The other thing I've found useful is that /examine will tell me the "level" of the creature, which when compared to the /con color of the creature will tell me approximately what the game thinks my "combat level" is. Not something you really need to do all that often, though.
The combat level WOULD be useful to know for CHs, whose skills now work dependant on creature levels (their creatures can only sum up to 60), but unfortunately, the devs are seriously considering or have already decided to give CHs the ability to access their creatures' combat levels from the datapad (a CH whined about not knowing their creatures' difficulty level in another thread, which prompted a quick response from a dev saying that they should be able to do that under the new system and it will be added post-haste), removing one of the only possible in-game uses for the Bioscience line.
Sorry if I sound bitter, I just hate the devs responding to a profession that's already pretty **edit** good on their own profession board immediately (CH) and breaking other professions further in the process (BE, Ranger, to name two).
Rangers do not lose anything by handlers seeing what level their creatures are. And they still won't get it when examining things in the wild, so it isn't as beneficial over all.

The skill is only useful if you are interested in learning more about SWG wildlife on your own. However, if you are the type that likes to read up on creature stats through a bestiary or other database, then it is totally irrelevant. In my case, I think it's fun to explore new planets and learn about the local fauna before they go social and pulverize me. ![]()
