Thread: Taxidermy? (or however it is spelled)

How about trophies? Maybe we could have an option of performing taxidermy on a animal, instead of harvesting from it. Stuffing it and putting it in our houses or PA halls. It would give Master Rangers a reason to do harvesting, when they dont need the scouting XP's, anymore. To keep everyone and the cousin from having a Krayte trophy. They could make the trophy require more than one animal to be killed and harvested, for stuffing purposes, depending on the level of creature

This would just plain rock! I mean in UO it was cool but never caught on because they only implemented it after like 4 years and everyone had already decorated 5 houses each.

Perhaps not all harvested creatures killed by groups but only the ones you kill ALONE. Meaning you have the creature knowledge not to "mess it up" too much. You can kill it while keeping it relatively intact so it "can" be mounted/stuffed.

Getting some metal, Wood, whatever...make a plaque with the head. In some of the non player guild halls you can see nice pictures on the wall..but something like this on our wall would be nice. I think in Jabbas there are two off to the side of his Throne Room...One is a Taun Taun, and not sure about the other...but it would be nice.

I have already touched upon this subject in post on the Ahazi and general forums. I believe the ranger should have the trophy skill. It would give us something lucarative we could sell. I also believe that it should be a higher level skill to make it something worth working for. If they want to tie it into some other profession as well (since most professions are linked somehow Tailor/Bio-engineer), they can make it so a harvested head is only viable for a 1 week period. During that time, it has to be taken to a Bio-Engineer to be preserved. In addition, you could have it so that a furniture maker needs to be given the preserved head for mounting on a plaque. Regardless, I think that this should be added a one of your harvesting selections. That Krayt dragon head hanging over the entance hall to your PA would look REAL nice....but's gonna cost ya.lol

As an aside, depending on how they are planning to do ships. It would be interesting to see a tie in for any pilot related profession they might come out with. Such as a Real Explorer. Image, if they open up and new worlds in the course of the game and your master ranger with the exploratory ship blazes a path there.Sets up a forward base and gets the low down on creatures, areas of interest and general resource lay out. Hell, you could have artisans paying out large creds to fund expeditions to new areas just to grab new things. Take the PA fatcats out on safari if you like. The possiblilties are endless with Ranger. Almost makes me sad for the other professions.

Adding a /gettrophy (or whatever other syntax) skill to the Field Bioscience line, which is all skillmods, is an idea I suggested a number of times back in beta. It would add a definite "cool factor" to the line and to the profession that would make Rangers more popular in groups without creating any imbalances in combat effectiveness, etc. I have a hard time seeing people in other professions being able to raise any significant objections to it.

The thing that I could see holding this ability up from quick implementation is the need to create a great deal of additional art for the trophies themselves. Every creature that could be "trophied" would need either a stuffed version or a portion of it (horns, head, etc.) created as inventory objects that could further be mounted on the wall of a house, and so forth. I personally think it's worth the effort, but I unfortunately doubt that something like this would appear in the game any time in the near future.

Yes, toward the end of beta we had a pretty good thread going about this idea. I'd still like to see it added at some point.

I personally love this idea. I'm not a ranger yet, but this seems FAR more appropriate than the BE "statues" we currently see in people's houses. I like the idea of harvesting multiple creatures to build a stuffed trophy that could be placed in my house or PA hall. Very nice.

This is kind of already in place...bio-engineered creatures can be placed kind of like a piece of furniture...they don't move or do anything, they just stand there, and move just a little bit in their animations.

As far as 'head on the wall' taxidermy, I'll see about that...maybe a schematic with meat and hide from the animal in question, along with some metal and inorganics?

I'm already doing this with fishing, after you "clean" the fish it is still in your inventory, I plan on making a room with all my fish I've caught displayed :-)
