The creature-to-hit bonus given by gaining ranger skills...does that only work for non-special attacks?

For example. I go up to a creature and select attack while I have my rifle out. My guy starts firing normal bolts at the target. I can only assume these receive the bonus. Now I go up to a creature and decide that I'd actually like to kill it in about a third the time. So I use mind shot 2, then start using head shot 2 (better than 3, most of the time) to kill it. Do I receive a bonus for this? Or is the bonus cancelled because I am using a special attack?

Many thanks to whoever knows the answer.

It only applies to normal ranged attacks . I don't even think it applies to our traps . Another tantalizing modifier for all of us Rangers lol .

Yeah , real big boost to all of us who like to chew through all THREE Ham bars instead of one .
