Thread: Ranger damage to animals

Just wanted to respond to this particular bit of your post. I have noticed that the Phecnacine Dart Traps work just as randomly as the Adhesive Mesh traps. Sometimes they keep them slow or rooted for a long time, sometimes they don't. It all depends on the animal. Some animals appear to have a better effectiveness against Restraint when examining them. I wonder if this is what determines how well your snare or root traps will work against them.
I dont know if it is broken or if it was never implemented, but the Ranger is supposed to "know how to take an animal down". However, I do no more damage and i still hit with the same frequency as my friend who does not have the Ranger skill. I do believe that there should be damage bonuses to creatures on for the Ranger profession. Ans d please dont limit it to only non-special attacks as that would make it just as useless.
Another is that a high level Ranger is supposed to be able to outrun any animal (according to their own descriptions). Not true.

Camoflauge... Does not work on NPC's as the description says. Also, I have it all except for the bonus for Master Ranger and I am still detected by many animals. I am not sure of the intent of the camoflauge but it seems to me that you should almost be able to hide from any animal at top level. Wrix still detect me often enough.
Just me two cents.
No, the Phenacine Dart IS the most effective trap. I got a mission to kill a faamba (a 10K HP dinosaur), and my role was to tranquilize it while others shot it. The first attempts, I used phenacine dart, and got fairly decent at keeping it from stepping on us. The next time I tried it, I tried the (piece-of-garbage) Adhesive Mesh, and it was a bloodbath in my party! Didn't understand why a higher-level trap had only 1 - 2 seconds of hold time! Eventually figured out that the Adhesive Mesh was the problem;used phenacine instead;we killed it. I levelled in trapping and everyone else got millions of exp.
I agree with VahnDroider. What's worse--I made the stupid decision to go Teras Kasi/Ranger. The Creature-To-Hit bonus doesn't apply to me at all! (What...a marksmen knows where to hit an animal, but I can't find the jugglar?)
Camoflauge NEVER works on NPCs. My maskscent ability (at Wayfaring 2) is detected frequently enough that i don't see the use of it.
What I find particularly sad is that I SOLOED a Fambaa, without using traps, WITHOUT using any of the so called 'Ranger' skills that lead you to believe you are the master at hunting animals .. with just Rifle 4 and RWS3 ... Ranger skills only came into play after the kill when I skinned the darn thing.
I like warning shot kiting .. im getting pretty good at it, but not all mobs can be WS kited. Some are too fast. Plains Hunters are too fast. Fambaa's are not.
If there was ONE skill I could wish for to be added to the Ranger line (and not the Scout line cos too many darn wannabe Scouts out there) .. is increased innate run speed.
Problem with this game is it's half balanced for PVP .. everyone's HAM bars are for the most part .. close to equal .. but PC's dont scale with NPC's or mobs at all. This is why you see people exploiting on places like Lok .. because they WANT to take down the big mobs .. but theres no way to do it unless you just flat out use zerg tactics .. or use CH pets to tank. I find traps inpractical and too ineffective for constant use.
I'm not much of a fan of PVP, but I really enjoy some nice big game hunting when I can find a mob that's suitable for soloing. It's fun, it actually takes a little bit of skill to do, and I dont want to have to use some cheezy CH pet to do it.
Anyway, hope they fix this stuff soon before I give up any of my Ranger skills .. cos right now .. I'm on the way to Bounty Hunter. I wanted to be a Ranger, but just don't see the point in filling out a whole other block of skills to be a slightly glorified Master Scout.
I will just repeat and expand on what I said about the Adhesive Mesh traps. I have thrown one at a Tortur Bull and it stays rooted for quite some time before breaking free, WAY longer than 1-2 seconds. But there have also been the times when it only lasted 1-2 seconds. I have thrown a Phecnacine Dart at a flying mob and had it close on me before the trap wore off. But then I use an Adhesive mesh trap and it stays put long enough for me to get its health down to a managable level. I havealso had times when the Phecnacine Dart only lasted 1-2 seconds.
Really, I love the Adhesive Mesh.... when used on the right mobs. Some are just more resistant to its effects than others. I also love the Phecnacine Dart, but only on mobs that don't move lightning fast.
A rooted creature (Adhersive mesh) has a chance to break free everytime you shoot at it. According to my experience the snare (Pheracine dart) stays for a specific period no matter if you shoot the creature or not.
I use snares when i'm shooting at an animal and roots when i need to flee a creature or take care of more then 1 aggro - root one, snare and kill the other. If you don't shoot at a rooted creature, the duration will depend on the threat rating of the creature (i think) - i've tested this and had a fambaa rooted for more then 30 secs - lesser creatures up to 1 minute.
Hope this helps.

About camo... higher you go, more points for higher level creatures. It works based on level. Crazed Durni's and moltted wrix's aren't greatly high so you get less points for masking against them.
Also, mask scent ONLY works againt aggro creatures. No yellows... it says so in description... and yeah some reds still may detect you but honestly rarely occurs with me, if I am, it's usually an aggro NPC that detects me, meaning Rangers NEED a maskscent to work aagainst NPCs too.
