Thread: We still can't /rescue
as a Rifleman, dont really need /rescue, fire one shot and all the mobs are on me ;-)

Aye, I just outdamage and it's on me, but it would be nice to have it back to save my melee friends occasionally. Not like it's smart to be tanking as a MRanger with my kinda defenses anyway though.

I always thought of /rescue as /sacrifice self where defences don't really matter you just want to pull the mob on yourself to save others.
SO if Player A was getting wounded, Player B could invoke his special, and start taking somehting like 25% of Player's Damage instead. This special was also on a timer, and it was even a special that pets could perform.
Pets would perform the special automatically if their masters health went below 25% or so.
Now that would be a better /rescue command, AND it would be good for both melee and ranged Rangers.

The CH-revamp brought this to SWG, well, kinda anyway

(Bit weird when you then have half the group trying to distract critters by using the fluffy pillows, but I guess they never expected that)
Way back when -
Rangers could use rescue to "exploit" BHs. Simply put, Ranger sees BH fighting with a mark. As soon as the markwas suitably damaged, near death, the Ranger would step in and "rescue" the BH, pulling the aggro and dropping the mark. No biggie, as back then XP was figured on damage done. Rangers did maybe 5% so the BH got 95% of the weapon xp and all of the BH Investigation XP. And at that time - anyone could attack marks, they were yellow cons on the radar.
Well, some of us (looks around - who me??) would further this fun time by saying to the BH - "I am a cleaner, sent by the Guild to clean up the mess you have been making. Get your stuff together or you will be hearing from the Guild." or words to that effect. (Think Harvey Keitel in Pulp Fiction and Point of No Return). Some BHs, being the lesser bulbs in the Christmas string of lights, actually thought this was a profession and we were actually sent by the Guild. Some of us laughed until we cried. What a bunch of maroons, but I digress.
The BHs refused to consider the humor in this, and rescue was nerfed so that the rescuee had to peace out of combat. Consent would have been better, but hey, the Devs did it on the fly. This started the slow death of rescue.
Today - I merely shoot he snot out of the creature beating on the Doc or other party I want to save. 90% of the time I pull aggro. No big deal. Just have the Doc quit shooting, heal, and the creature tends to leave that person and find the one doing a lot of damage to it.
Rescue had one purpose, to amuse us. And that was nerfed. If they made it go away tomorrow I would not miss it.
