All this sounds great, very much like a new version of XvT, but is that really a mmorpg. I'm curious to know what is in space for many of the professions in game, such as artisan/droid engineer/dancer/musican/smuggler? Its already been stated no mining in space, this would of been a awesome addition, being able to dump a harvester on a asteroid or gas mining in a nebulae. It sounds all very arcade like, which I like' but I think were gonna see a major decline in other profession, simply because theres no point I've heard of,for them being in space, and everyone is gonna want to be in space, its Star Wars.

This is something Cinco and I talked about while we were in LA at E3. I've also spoken with Runesabre about it and as we get closer to JTL, we're going to be doing a "ground integration" and once beta begins, Cinco will give me the word and we'll run some focus threads to find out how players see there professions developing in Space. Although I don't see placing harvesters on asteroids in the JTL. That will be something that is definately for later development.

*snip*

If they're going to run a focus thread for this anyway it can't hurt to get started now.

How do you guys thinkthey should integrate Rangers into space? or if we should have any integration at all?

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

What? No Stealth? Cloaking shield cert? I'm personally hoping they let us take off from camps and land in wilderness areas.

I cant see Rangers being too terribly useful in space. Perhaps UberCamps that offer all the uses of a super camp/city. Healing, crafting stations, minor mining abilites and ship repair. Upon landing upon any foreign body in space they would have a learned or innate(force) feeling of their environment. Perhaps a briefing type info that only a Ranger could read in the signs and markings left by other Rangers.

When looking at a navigational system they should be able to /examine nebulae, asteroids, space oddities and what not and glean more info about it than anyone else in regards to safety and hunting.

Just a few thoughts.

New home of SWG Rangers!

"Ranger isnt a profession. Its a lifestyle for sure. But upon the desert plains of Tattooine that wandering hermit you see was once a proud Ranger. It may not be a profession anymore but the lifestyle can never be lost, changed or deleted. "

First of all, they're going to have to add a separate pool of skill points for space-related professions, or risk losing even more customers. Who wants to choose between something that's good on the ground and something that's good in space combat? I certainly don't want to give up Ranger/TKM, but I can't imagine either of those would give me flight bonuses. And they REALLY had better not give out just another bunch of skill points, or lots of folks will use that to make their ground PvP template even more uber.

Space Ranger Ideas

Tracking ships.
Camps to launch small ships from.
Cloaking for ships.
Places for Space Rangers to land and explore. Better and rare hunting/foraging on these landings.

Really there is nothing that would be useful for rangers in space. The skills points for JTL are experienced based and donot come from your skill points. I just hope the YT1300 ships will have a cargo hold that we can store our harvested resources so that way we can move them from planet to planet faster. Right now you're limited to what you can carry. Another thing that bums me out about JTL is that they didn't open up any new planets. Oh well, I guess that is really another expansion pack huh. I guess I'll just have to wait for that. I wish there were planets that you could only get to if you had your own ship and flew there.

Foraging for extremely rare space melons

I like the navigation bonuses. But the problem is incorporating bonuses like this into a "twitch" style of gameplay.

I'm almost positive that the piolet professions are using seperate space skill points. The shipwright may use some Empire Devided skill points as a pre-req (example engineering IV) then the space skill points from there. You can't have Rebel Pioletxp and Imperial Piolet xp, but I assume the nuetral piolet will be ableto have Imperial / Rebel skills too.

I'm just guessing here but,you probably you can master 2 of the new space professions, so you could be a master privateer (nuetral piolet)and master imperial piolet, or a master imperial piolet and a master shipwright.
