I would like to thank everyone who posts on this forum, you are very informative and considerate, it has helped alot

there are several reasons why i would love to keep this proffesion, and several why i wont

Why I want to be ranger

The TN bonus's are great, its great being able to out-run a friend on foot while he is on a swoop driving up a hill , also helps with running away from everything

Camo has worked very well for me and my guildmates, especially on Black suns, so it does work on NPC

Tracking, as i am a MBE this has been an invalueable tool for me, gone are the days of aimless driving/running for specific creatures to poke with a needle.../areatrack Mutant Rancor (456 North)

The harvest bonus is another great compliment to BE, BE need more meat than a slaughter house

creature knowledge is cool, but i knew most of the info alrdy

Rangers are cool!

Why i wont stay a Master Ranger

I cant kill anything

Traps, unless im missinng something, they cant kill anything

camps= eye candy

I cant kill anything

I cant kill anything

I cant kill anything

Conclusion

Ranger has so much potential, too be a great profession, the lack of ability to kill your prey is quite frustrating, whats the point, of the harvest bonus's and other perks, if you cant kill it to harvest it?

ill most likely drop master and keep the lines that work for me 4040, and pick up some combat skills

Rangers really need a weapon for creatures, not for humans (rangers are not PvP'ers)

If i could kill something bigger than a gnort, i would happliy be a Master, as it is, i got more resourses as a TKM/MBE

my skills:

master ranger

master BE

CH 0300

any suggestions on a combat to compliment ranger? if i can just kill something /cry

Hi - Ranger doesn't really help you kill critters, it just helps you find them (and this is arguably becoming less and less true as the spawn rates on the older servers drop). I would say that you need to get at least one advanced combat profession, which will mean either dropping some of BE or some of ranger. Probably the best thing to do is what you say - go to 4040 and invest the rest of your skill points in an advanced combat prof. I think that a lot of BE's that have ranger to support their endeavors just have ranger 0040, as this is where our harvesting bonuses are and you still get pretty good tracking.

Ok - you have two "support" classes. No wonder ya can't kill squat.

Personally, I would stay Ranger, harvest until I was blue in the face - after picking up a combat class right quickof course - then see if I wanted to go back to BE. That way, you can stock up meat for the BE.

Just a suggestion.

Congrats on the great achievement of attaining master ranger status. Now drop it and pick up something useful, rofl.

Master Ranger, as is, by itself needs a combat compliment. I'm Rifleman. The combowields theresult of a true Sniper.

Sounds like you've picked the best Ranger skills to meet your needs. Just use what works.

Check out the thread on Tracking While Mounted. You'll dig that one.

I would like to thank everyone who posts on this forum, for all your input, towards the ranger profession.

I have really enjoyed Ranger and would love to keep the master tag, but alas, it doesnt seem possibile , with BE/ranger i have only 18pts left, i tried CH (per Calc suggestion, thx Calc ), but i still couldnt kill anything bigger gnort, the harvest bonus doesnt make a difference when your havests are only 10units per

I am now trying marksman/carbines I,

I want to keep Master, but if a Master ranger cant kill anything higher than a CL10 creature, i dont see myself stickin around too long.

How do rangers kill stuff?? with out a combat class.

We are Rangers!, and it befuddles (is that a word?) me, that we cant kill any high lvl MOB.

There are so many things that make Rangers great :

Tracking: being that im a BE, this has been a great tool for me, it has also helped me and my guild get a nice suit of BH armor, trackin Black suns

Camo: i dont see any difference between /mask and /camo, but my guildies tell me it helps them,

when i camo someone what is their bonus?

Creature Knowledge and harvest bonus is nice, but i need someone to kill it 1st

TN is great for running away from creatures, since i really cant hurt them anyway

There are a few things that are completely worthless:

Traps are useless, my guild tells me it helps them a little in taking down a creature, but the difference isnt that great.

What traps do u guys use? in what order?

Camps are just eye candy, i see no use for them, if there is one please tell me

The main thing, WE CANT SOLO A DURNI! This is the biggest drawback for me, i dont understand how a big-game hunter cant kill anything without a combat profession, maybe my thinking is just wrong, but a ranger should have no problem in the wild killing things and surviving, but without a combat profession, all your going to do is anger whatever you try to kill, and run away.

I dont expect to be a factor in the GCW or even PvP, but i would expect to be able to goto endor and DNA sample some creatures and when they agro (which they do alot, must not like needles), be able to take it down. as of now i cant

Im considering dropping Master ranger and and staying 4040 or even 2040, but before I do that, im hopeing someone can shed some light on how a ranger without a real combat profession can stay a Master Ranger.

If you really want to keep BE, then this is what you should do:

drop trapping, frontiering, and wayfaring II-IV. You will still be able to use camo kits, just not make the higher level ones.

Tracking is very useful, (despite the bugs) but, the benefits at master ranger are very intangible and generally not worth the skill points.

However, anyone with Novice Ranger is still a Ranger in my book, so find a combo that suits your play style and allows you to have fun

Number 1 and most important.

We arent a combat class

Number 2 and nearly as important

We arent a combat class

Yes we have issues as the stickies will show you. But your being a master ranger/master BE is more about the BE side then it is the Ranger side. You've made yourself a really good BE like that. Because you can see all information on a beast you want to sample without having to crossreference SWGCreatures. So you may have to think of yourself as more of a crafter.

To be honest if you want Ranger/BE like you have. You will have to think about dropping traps or camps from your ranger set to get the points for the combat skills you sound like you want.

But as a BE your primaily a crafter and as a ranger your a being of nature.

Whats the conceal bonus? Im not sure im a master ranger and when i conceal people their conceal holds against creatures longer then my mask scent. Many non-master scouts in my guild love it when i go on a hunt. Because the conceal usually holds against some really nasty beasts.

And i will be one of the voices that say traps do work. I have been using Adhesive Mesh a lot lately especially with my 56 bonus trapping droid. It roots the target into place. We have area of effect traps to.

Camps are primarily eye candy right now. But they do allow a doc to heal without a bot. They do give you portable public crafting stations on the go (yeah but i can do it with a droid I know). And it gives you a place to organize prep, and get ready for whatever your doing. I havent tested the HTFB's ability to push away red cons and see if its been fixed yet.

I have to agree with what Agon has said if you want to keep BE. As far as killing critters, I went the Master Rifle profession. (which I just recently made :smileyhappy This has definitly been a boon to my solo harvesting intake, and a benefit when hunting with a group.

/thinks I don't recall directing anyone towards the CH profession... it simply isn't a combat profession.

Honestly, all you really need out fo the Ranger prof is the tracking tree. Maskscent from scout is good enough for your needs, so skip the wayfaring line. The Ranger traps aren't as useful as Scout traps, IMO, so skip that line. Camping? Bah! Skip it. Iwould suggest keeping the minimal Scout skills you need (the hunting line?), whatever Medic skills you want (isn't Org Chem the only prereq line for BE?), and pouring the rest into an elite combat prof! If I lead you to believe that CH was the best way to go for combat skills, i am sorry...CH as it is, is really only a defensive prof.

I'd argue it is possible to be decent at combat with only support professions. As a Master Ranger / Master Squad Leader / Marksman 0/0/0/4 / CH 0/0/0/3, I can usually solo creatures up to about CL 20in small swarms. I can usually solo about 2-3 STs if I pull out a faction pet as well (a droid would also work but I have yet to get my hands on one). I just make sure my pet is tanking while I stand back and shoot. If my pet gets low on health, I use a pet stim. I can't solo anything really big but I can run 5k credit missions without too much trouble. And I'm using wild pets (I still have a huge stock of them from my MCH days and can't convince myself to destroy them and pick up a new BE one). The Master Squad Leader helps a little but most of the skills don't work on pets. And I usually don't get agroed so they don't do much at all. But it's much easier if I drag along another player or two.

Calc there ya go , it actually worked great with groups, but didnt help solo as much as i thought

*snip*

Touche! I was basing that on Master Ranger, Master BE...in light of current events, I retract my former statement and reccomend you only go with the tracking line of Ranger ands pick up as much weapons skills as you can . I apologize for elading you astray, and i hope you didn't waste too much time on your excursiom
