Thread: the status of camps and an idea I just had...

How about a mission terminal? At least in the advanced camps... They would give out missions just like the normal ones (same distance, payment, etc) so there wouldnt really be any unbalancing. Instead it would support the rangers role in hunting far away from civilization. Other party members (or even anyone) could get missions there too. The camp owner might even get survival xp for missions accomplished from that terminal. The advantage is that it doesnt really introduce any new game dynamics, so its relatively easy to implement.

To be honest I havent really followed these boards, so I dont know if this idea has been brought up yet. Does anyone have a list or a link to a thread with the "top 10 camp ideas" or something? I know another idea was to be able to call a shuttle from the camp that can transport the party back to the nearest shuttleport or something. I like that one too.

So what other ideas are floating about?

Nice idea, i was thinking the other day that camps should be far more usefull than they really are.

Im a bit of a roleplayer so id love the idea that groups would set up camps more often, but there really is no reason to atm except to get survival exp, which is a shame cos it adds a certain level of atmosphere in my opinion.

Would be nice to make some camps in the ranger tree be specific for things. Like a campsite that acts as a FR 50 crafting station, or maybe even further, give more bonus to crafting.

A campsite that could act like an ID tent maybe, or Medical Tent which has a higher med bonus than any droid (ie better buffs), Camp that maybe can heal player pets over a short period of time (while out of combat) etc

My ideas for camp redesign include:

  • High Tech Field Base and Field Base Kit should be able to be attacked and disabled, repaired?.
  • High Tech Field Base should have structure which can be entered.
  • High Tech Field Base should have a small short range (15-25m), med/low impact turret (can be disabled).
  • High Tech Field Base and Field Base Kit should not disband during combat.
  • Hunting cabin! (50 item cap, better than camp wound healing)

  • (check out a picture of my hunting cabin at: petter.us/rettep/rangerplan.php)

I like the mission term idea.

  • Y'know, I thought of those exact same things yesterday. I was reading a set of patch notes looking for something, and I came across the part about being able to use a base turret manually. I thought that would be great for the High Tech Field Base.

Only problem I forsee is that (in my opinion) the turrets should ONLY be use-able in PvP, because there's always a chance people would try to exploit them for farming XP in PvE.

Can you imagine the people that would bug you to constantly pull out a camp so they can get some missions. I think it would be better to have Rangers as walking mission terminals without payout. Afterall, we are supposed to be harvesting to sell resources.. not doing missions to get paid. Yes, we can do both if were lucky but still. I would hate to constantly get bugged by money/xp grinders to build yet another camp they can use for 2 minutes then run off.

Well, first off I personally don't see my only role as a walking resource harvester. What's wrong about taking destroy missions that have animals as a target and getting paid for that? And since you can only set up camps in the wilderness, where you rarely meet people anyway, I doubt it will be a real problem to be bugged by people for setting up a camp because it's faster for them to just run back to a mission terminal than to find a ranger, start a converstation with him, meet him, most likely PAY him and wait until he has found a spot away from lairs to set up his camp. Also whenever camps will be made useful, no matter the features,it will hardly avoidable that people bug you about setting one up. I mean docsare bugged for buffs and wound healing, smugglers are bugged for slicing, crafters are bugged to make people stuff. So what's wrong about being bugged for providing people with services? It only shows that you finally have a skill that is actually useful.

The main purpose of camps, as I see it, is to provide people in the wilderness with things they normally only get in cities. And these things can basically be narrowed down to cantina, shuttleports, mission terminals, hospitals, bazaar and bank. Apart from the bank and bazaar I can see camps providing all these services, with downsides if needed for balancing reasons.

    - For example the "evacuation shuttle" only brings you to the nearest shuttleport, costs a lot of credits and you need to wait10 minutes for it.

    - Entertainersshould be able to heal your mind wounds AND battlefatigue, but maybe at a slower rate than in cantinas (would make master dancers/musicians more desireable than dabblers).

    - For the hospital thing first off the way droids work needs to be changed. Because I am a fan of droids and got a master DE on another server, I would like to see them remain useful. But the bonus of a hospital/camp and droid should stack. Hospital maybe +20%, camp +10% and droid +10%. So if you use a droid and are in a camp you would get a total of +20%, while you would only get +10% with a droid outside a camp/hospital.

    - For missions to show up on the terminal the camp might needs to stand a certain amount of time

And I think everyone agrees with me that camps should be a bit more permanent. Combat shouldn't disband them and I would even say they stay while you are on the same planet and logged on. What's the problem with that anyway? I mean the way xp is gained from camps needs to be tweaked a little of course, but the way people are grinding camping xp right now is ridiculous anyway.

Personally I really miss the downtimes from the early days where my group would set up a camp to heal up. Where I got asked "could you please set up a camp Norik". I had the most fun conversations in camps back then. But then again I am a socializer and roleplayer, so I don't mind a little downtime at all. And I dislike running from mission to mission like headless chickens when doing group hunts these days.

    Ah well...

i totallyy agree on the fact that the camps should nt be "abbandoned" when you enter into combat...

    expecially high end ones..

i see them as a base...

you se a basse in teh canion and you start hunting down and than you go back at teh camp to heal yourself...

to place a camp everytime is jkust TEDIOUS!

Would be cool if all group members could clone at your base camp. Would add some interesting tactics.

Good points Narak. I guess it would be more rare than I had thought.

I think all of the ideas for camps are outstanding. The one thing I would like to see is that the HTFB be made an enclosed structure at the least. They could get rid of the one of the crafting stations. Make it something like the Cantina/Med Center in Anchorhead. Without the basement and some of the other frilly stuff.
