Thread: RANGER CARTEL
On my server - Farstar - All buffs (good one atleast) are 12 k. They last for 3 h 20 min. I really dont see the problem in that. If you got a good combat proffesion (as you should have when beeing Ranger) you can take two 8 k mission or more the first hour, then you would have earn back the money for the buff and still be 4 k ahead.
The nest 2 h 20 min you search for stuff that you know are good (you can also find these on mission earing extra credit, say that you take mission for 6 k and manage to do 5 of them for the buff period, that leaves you with 30 k + the earnings of the resorues you harvest), like high OQ meat, Wooly hide etc. If you do this in the long run you should be on your way to riches ![]()
If you want to be rich, i suggest harvesting lagre amount (5k or more) then selling them on the forums. I currently have an auction for 5 k of herbivore meat from Endor that i will get 30 cpu for, thats 150 k... But i have to admit as novice rifleman that took me a long time.

We aren't rich..
Depends, a ranger doesn't need much. A one time investment in 3 harvesters (mineral/chemical/power) and we can gather all the resources we need at cost. If you're talking about buying RIS armors or several AV-21's because it keeps getting destroyed on Dath, yeah then we aren't rich.
Ibet every ranger can say that with harvests you don t get as much as with many other proofs (like medic and such)
I might not make as much as a doc, but I sure get more then a smugler or a DE. What's the fun in everything being equal.
This is for 2 foundamental points imho :
1) scouts can harvest as we do
Master Scouts can harvest faster on bigger creatures due to faster killrate (assuming the other profs are combat and they know how to play). The best paying meat (avian) can be harvested faster by rangers as any other resource that's only found on smaller creatures (e.g. corellian woolly).
2) prices on resources are very low
What's low? On eclipse good avian goes for 100+, Good meat 30-40cpu, Good hide 40-50. Harvest at the right moment (rancors right now on eclipse) and millions can be made.
while on the first point there s nothing we can do, on the second one i think there is..
just look at the docs
buffs 10 k
and every doc buffs you at 10k
so if you want to take a buff at 9k you can search and search and search but you will always find the doc asking 10 k (99% of them)
while with resources prices vary a LOT..
i know that while buffs are all the same, resources aren t
but i think that what is keeping the prices low is the fact that we are cutting each other the price... thus making us not rich as we could be..
But there's no alternative for Docs, but there are a couple of other professions with scouting skills. A doc can charge 10k because he'll know he'll get a line anyway. I'm surprised I've only seen a doc charging 20k once, the buffs weren't great, but he hardly had a line so you were paying for the speedy service.
IF we found an algorithm based on resource qualities wich determines the resource price
and EVERY RANGER start to sell at this price i bet that prices on resources would be higher!
Such an algorithm is in the ranger FAQ but with eclipse starved for creature resources, it tends to price on the low side.
Ok, the next section is going to sound like a big brag post, which I swore to myself never to post. To ease my consciousnessI used a real dark font, select the text for easy reading, skip it if you're like me and hate reading brag posts. The reason I do post it is that a few in-game examples may do more then general arguments and to show them/you the money/oppertunities are there, you just need to find them and work for them. I'm working my ass off at the moment because I'm saving up for my fighter in JTL, between the hunting contracts I'm working on FP.
I leveled Rifleman (starting at the 125k needed for novice) last week on Gaping Spider Hunters, got 130k meat sold at 30cpu. That's 3.9 million. Spend 1.9 on armor and the rifles I needed as a newborn rifleman. 2 million profit.
This week the Dath. Carnivore is good, also 30cpu. Using veghash and a harvesting droid I'm getting 450 to 600 units/kill and can get a 100k stack in 3 hours, fellow Rangers on RIN tell me this can go even faster (but I'm a stubborn guy, I like my concealshot). The veghash is a regular bonus from one of the chefs I supply, the droid requires batteries (6k a crate on the bazaar) and I need to take a sip of brandy everyonce in a while. Rancors are vulnerable or less resistant to acid, the most expensive rifle sadly, spend 1.2 mill on buying and slicing 5 of them. Profit when orders are filled : 16 million.
This past week lokian berry was good. I've got 5 flora harvesters on them that will get about 600k @3cpu, another 1.8 million.
Assume a doc has 9k profit on a buff if he buffs a 100 people he has made 900k by sitting at the starport in a tellhell, trying to have some conversation with the people he knows, trying to keep an eye open to prevent being scammed. If he wants to make 1.8million a day he'll have to sit there twice as long. Same goes for us, the more time we spend on harvesting, the more money we can make. I have more fun hunting then sitting in a lagcity buffing people. Maybe this fun comes at a small decrease of in-game income, but I'm happy to suffer that.
Ranger may be "broken" or not working as intended in many areas but generating income is not among these issues.
Washell Olivaw, Ranger/Rifleman, Eclipse
P.S. Due to various personal reasons I have a lot of free time on my hands. Wouldn't be able to generate this in-game income next to a fulltime study/job. That's one of thereasons I'm trying to make as much as possible now, gives me more time to just have fun when my playing time has decreased again.
P.P.S. Those who've read thedarktext and wished they didn't : You were warned ![]()
I've personally been a Master Ranger since oct/nov... I have neverrun acrossanyone willing to pay me more than 10cpu for good quality anything especially if I dont have at least 5k or whatever the harvest is.
I worked toward Ranger from LaunchDay because the scout/ranger tree most appealed to me all through Beta 2&3. Now I have never had the time nor inclination to spend more than a couple hours a day playing so I'll likely never be able to harvest and cash in like Washell talks about in his posts but considering that I typically get offered only 1/10 to 1/5 of the prices he gets its no wonder that ive never had more than a 2-300k in the bank (from missions not harvest sales either).
I havent given up on Ranger and prolly never will but is it just me or do we need a better way of pricing and selling our harvests? I've tried to stick with the pricing guide referred to in the forum stickies and it works to an extent. Anyone else have good ideas?

Diaron HCaor, Wanderhome-wanderer (Novice Scout/Brawler/Medic/Artisan)
Start looking on the trade forums for your galaxy, they will let you know what people are looking for and what they are willing to pay. Then you go get it and send them a tell in game and BAM you have credits. It is all about supply and demand, there are few of us and many of them, they need what we can provide. Trust me and don't give up

i m making a nice amount of money already
i am selling tatoonian wooly hide at 55 cpu
but i know that we could charge up to 70k if we ranger decided to make a cartel
Guys, I have said this amny many times -
We are not going to get rich selling our harvests.
I never harvest without it being a mission, or knowing I am getting at least 25cpu for the harvest.
My usual method - I take2 missions, ones that pays well and I know I can do without dying. I go do them. I harvest on the mission. Regardless of the stats, you can always sell hides to tailors or architects. I also milk and collect eggs. Not on my buff time however. Which is food buffs most of the time, doc buffs only if they are freebies - friends grinding.
I get paid for the missions - the harvest - themilk and the eggs. Outlay = maybe 1k considering wear and tear on my weapon and the two buffs i drank. Input = 4 missions at 7k per = 28k plus whatever I sell the rest of the stuff for.
There is one time I will harvest off mission - when a resources is easy to get and is great in stats. Naboo wool at one point was 1000SR. I was getting 100cpu easy. Areatrack works, I made well over a million in two nights of hunting.
I make most of my money on the missions, the harvest is gravy.

Are we really in it to get rich? I think that most of us aren't. However, there's a lot of money to be made in the harvesting market. Last week I made enough to pick up three shiny new suits of armor, ten new rifles, a few more crates of food and drink, and a +6pistolspeed attachment as a gift for a pal, and I still had enough to invest some time is trying out a melee profession.
I won't be crusin' around in an AV-21 wearing 40% stun/90% base compositetotin' a brace of krayt rifles all hopped up on janta blood buffs with the Emperor holding my gear while I bust out the Death Star from my datapad, but I have plenty to take a break from pure harvesting for a while.
The best way to control your prices is to control your prices. Don't sell a resource for less than you think it's worth, and you won't get ripped off. If you don't think a resource will sell for what you want to get, then don't collect it. Check on the trade forums for who's buying what, and check swgcraft.com for the latest news on what the hot harvestable resource is.

ROFL! I know this guy!
