Well, this past saturday was the most fun I have had since launch. I helped with a Black Sun hunt most of the afternnoon and into the evening. I spent my time with 3 different hunting groups and was instrumental in bringing in 14 pieces of bounty hunter armor. I also was instrumental in arrainging a non-spawn steal compact between all 3 Black Sun hunting groups. At the end of the night, I even managed to have an extra item to give to a newbie that was just starting to collect their own suit. All of this was done gratis since I had already helped all of these individuals with previous hunts and had developed a good working reputation amongst them all.
I finished off my own suit during this prolonged hunt, had a great time and made a name for myself with a large diverse group of gamers. This was a good night and made me proud of my profession all over again. We rarely seem to get much notice in the day to day game world, but on sat. I was having trouble just keeping up with all the msg's and requests to join up with yet even more hunting groups that where forming at the time.
I say all this not to brag but as a simple example that even the sometimes forgotten profession of Ranger gets to see the sun from time to time. lol

Thanks for the info. Although it seems to have multiposted you and cut you off. The search method you recommend is similar to what I've tried (including regions. the main difference being that I usually go out alone and call people in when I find it--not everyone likes randomly wandering). I guess I just haven't spent enough time doing it.

I guess I'll head out to YAvin and see if I can kill two birds at once. 1. Kill avian as its in a good shift there on the Radiant server. 2. Get killed looking for Black Son members. SWG life is such an adventure ![]()

Black Sun spawns occur on Dathomir,Endor and Yavin. Endor will be hunting spot of choice once the bunker goes live tomorrow as the highest concentration of Black Sun and Deathwatch will be in and around the bunker itself. Given the fact the bunker will not be instanced, I believe that player camping will be at an all time high even given the difficult nature of the DeathWatch NPC's. Therefor, I recommend Yavin as a secondary hunting location for Black Sun. I believe that Endor will be the only real hunting ground for DeathWatch or then a truely rare random spawn on another planet.
Ok, On Yavin you will notice atleast 5 areas of deep rich green on your planetary map. These areas denote mountainous regions. From all of the hunting I have done, I have come to the conclusion that Black Sun NPC's on Yavin prefer mountainous areas as opposed to low laying valleys or beaches. You can certainly find them in valleys and plaines, but they will be much rarer than in mountainous regions. Also, you will want to look from midway up the mountain in each rich green area up to the summit.
I have also found that you will usually find the largest amount of spawns after a large group of players has tromped through your search grid. Large groups of player movement in a given area tend to pop more diverse spawn in larger concentrations than single individuals moving within the same area.
I have found that the times of 12am -3am tend to be the most scarse for finding spawn. 3am seems to be the pickup time for spawns to once again start appears with any real frequency.
Hunting groups of 3 people are ideal for maximum search results. This group size keeps loot division within acceptable terms. (Black Sun's do not always drop loot. If you are out for 4 hours with a group of 5 and only get 3 items, it can be strenous trying to decide who gets what.) Also, with 3 people, the ranger can search within his or her 500m tracking range while their partners roam outside that range and make passes through the rangers tracking field to pop extra spawn.
Black Sun has shown to spawn in 2 group sizes. The first group size is the 3 person grouping of an Assassin, a Guard, and a Thug or Henchman. The 2 person grouping usually revolves around an Assassin and a Thug or Henchman.
In order of most common loot items to most rare you will find...
Money,Belts,Bracers,Biceps,Gloves,Boots,Pants,Chest Plate,Helm, Jet Pack Base.
You will also find random armor pieces that have stat effecting bonuses applied. The best I have seen so far is a belt with +6 def v. dizzy, +6 def v. blind, +7 def v. stun.
Do not attempt to repair any armor that you find. In every case I have seen where armor repair was attempted, the armor was destroyed in the process.
If you have any need of any clarification of these tips just let me know.
