Thread: I cannot work around this insanely stupid skill point Respec system....

unless i'm a complete idiot and im missing something obviouse....

I was a very Proud Master Ranger, but wanted to just play with Bounty Hunter fora couple days, and because my best friend was going to do it to. Well, long story short:

They way i read the respec thing, was that if you didn't use all skill points they would be lost. so, i made sure that i had the same number of free skill points post re-spec that i did before the re-spec(4). At M.Rifles+M.Scout+M.BH i had 4 free skill points left, the same number as when i was M.Rifles+M.Ranger.

but, i didn't know there were secondary skill point ratings, making Ranger skills, and ONLY ranger skills (that i've noticed) worth more than any other elite skill boxes. So when i Respecd to MBH i lost something like 25 "elite skill points" And now, no matter what i try, I cannot Respec back to Master Ranger without grinding nearly 1.5 million xp.

what kind of retarded system doesn't allow a player to respec back to their PRE-CU template after trying something out for a couple days? And i'll cancel my account before i grind out xp i already earned. It's the principal here. I have opend a CSR ticket and /bug'd it 3 times. i will /bug it twice more tonight. I opened the ticket yesterday, what is the standard response time?

and, just for kicks, am i missing an obvious workaround? due to unused "elite points" being lost, i cant just train and surrender Novice Squadleader over and over again until i build up the points, so is there anything i can do, to get back what is rightfully mine?

It's a lame setup, I agree. The only workaround... Is to use them all up. Which isn't always possible.

I had to regrind as well. :/

* which would have been impossible for me to do in the first place. because i had more 'elite points' than actual skill points.

who the hell though this system up?

and on regrinding- somehow i think i have lost imense amounts of scouting xp. i'm capped at 75k right now.... is that the pre-cu cap? and if it's not. then i still refuse to regrind just because some idiot didn't think this through.

I lost Master Ranger and a tier 4 skill box due to this insane system.

I'd already dropped down from MR, but after transferring a couple of ranger boxes into Rifleman (actually, I think it was 4, 2 for the last two boxes and two to get enough points to take the master box) I realised that Ranger boxen cost more to 'buy back' and wasn't able to stack my remaining boxes into Trapping.

Solution? Go take a bunch of missions, regrind and retrain the low level boxes of Ranger, then juggle the respec values of those around.

The respec system is sort of good and it does gove you the info you need when doing the respec, but you need to be already familiar with it before you start moving stuff around. Kind of a Catch 22 situation really.

Still, couple of my novice rangers elsewhere didn't fare so well. THey only had novice elite weapons but I'd not ground out the prereq. So, there they were, rooted to the spot while I butchered their skill tree to be able to afford the prereq for their combat skills, and the only other skills they had was Scout/Nov Ranger. Gimped they are.

*** oh, and it now saves any unused respec points till you respec again ***

the problem is, i only have 4 actual free skillpoints. so i cant even learn novice ranger right now. the problem is, even if i re-learned some low level ranger boxes, and then tried to put them elswhere to keep the 'elite points' i would still have more elite points than skill points. and i really dont want to be the one to test the system 'saving' unused elite points.

can anyone verify that claim?

Lol, I thought I already did, but I must have edited myself.

When I did my first respec I had a shortfall in respec points (when I moved boxes from ranger to rifles) when I tried rebuilding my ranger skills the next day. That was due in part to the fact that ranger boxes cost more AND due to the fact that, on CU Launch day, it wasn't saving points. I'd had n points left over, 'banked' the surplus in Novice BH and still had, I think, 2 over. Those two I lost.

Next day, dropped Novice BH, took CH instead. Figured it'd be more use to have a pet and a droid out than the little benefit NovBH offered. I was still short on respec points and couldn't rebuild my ranger skills so I dropped a couple of low level boxes, applied them to tracking and ended up with 7 Elite points left over.

They were still there the next day. By that time I'd hunted enough to have another few low level ranger boxes worth of XP. I trained these at the Ranger trainer (might have had to drop Novice CH, can't remember now tbh)then respec'd again. Trapping line was now full, had some spare XP, a few spare SP and, iirc, I've got 2 or 4 Respec Points 'banked' for tomorrow.

So that's at least twice I've had respec points left over and saved them till the next respec opportunity.

was there any mention by the DEVS returning those lost respec points? I saw something on launchpad bout Chimera getting 'lost points' returned... was that in reference to respec points?

i think, i lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 respec points when i went to bounty hunter. if the sytem not saving those points was a glitch, then a CSR should return them to me so i can get back to being a Master Ranger

Is it possible that you have more lower level skill boxes used than before ? These are worth half an elite skill and could be where the points disappeared to. I never deviated from Master Ranger in the respec myself so can't be sure myself that there is a Ranger specific problem there but my fiance changed to Master Ranger in his spec and out and back again and didnt tell me of any problems.

My Bio Engineer character was respecd considerably before I reverted to my original setting and managed to shift some excess points to Bio Engineer so that she could master it.

Oh, and if you surrendered a Novice Elite Skill box outside of the respec system to train up another box or two you would have lost those for respecing and could explain the loss even though your resulting skill points left are the same.

Just reread your original post, Sick, ignore me. I hadn't realised you were right down to zilch in Ranger, couldn't get Nov Ranger. Dunno what I was thinking. (Late o'clock, yada yada, etc)

About all you can do is submit a CSR ticket and hope they get back to you. I'm not sure, but there might be a thread onthe TechSupport forum? If there isn't maybe you should start one....

There was a sysmsg last night on Bria about the number of claims that've been going in for lost skills etc due to the respec. Seems they're getting a lot of hooky claims in and htat's slowing up the response to everyone.

All I can suggest is that you write out exactly what levels you were pre-CU, then explain how you got to where you are now and after that am afraid its going to be a waiting game.

The rollbacks on the two servers mentioned were due to an 'irrepairable error' and the only way to fix it was to roll back to a pre-CU state and then restart. TBH I can't see them doing a rollback on other servers now as people have managed to get thru the respec and are working away at the grind again. Maybe they can do a character specific roll back? Hope you get sorted soon.

Just in case you didn't know.

i know that. thanks though.

I was, exactly: Marksman 4xx4, Master Scout, Master Rifleman, Master Ranger after the CU went live. as i stated i gave up novice medic box on my first post-CU log in, to make up for the extra tree in marskman.

then, i respec'd to Marksman 4xx4, Master Scout, Master Rifleman, Master Bounty Hunter and this left me with the exact same number of free skill points, 4. But, being as Ranger was worth more elite points than bounty hunter, i lost somewhere close to 20 elite points.

So now, if i surrender bounty hunter, i can respec back to Marksman 4xx4, Master Scout, Master Rifleman, Ranger 3444 and have 7 elite points left. But i need 12 elite points to buy back wayfaring4. and 13 to get Master Ranger. So i'm like 18 elite points short.

that's pretty screwed up ain't it?

That really doesn't make sense .. all the Elite Skills use the same skill points and all the Novice Skills use the same skill points. From novice to master that is. So if you just shifted your skills from the Ranger screen to the Bounty Hunter screen it should have stayed the same .. and back again. However, I can't recall the pre-requisites for Bounty Hunter so can't be sure but did Bounty Hunter involve you adding an extra column you didnt have before ? All I can think of is that somehow the pre-requisite squares were messed up somehow outside of the respec.

thanks Ken'

i got that system message also, about the false claims. What i forgot mention is that pre-CU i had novice medic, which almost all of us had. so i had to immediately surrender that to get the Ranged Support tree in marksman. that's the only difference in my Pre-CU to Post-CU template. But if i'm correct, i never varied from having 4 free skillpoints. i'll long on soon to check and see if my ticket has been responded to. and i'll also check out the TechSupport forum.
