Hey guys question from a NOOB ranger. I'm currently 4440 Ranger and trying to get my trapping xp to finish up ranger yet no matter what I do I can not get more than like 2xp per kill no matter how many traps I land on a creature. I'm using the glow wire traps and have tested on different level creatures can anyone offer me some advice?

Same problem with weapon skill exp. If the critter isn't at or near your CL, you won't get jack.

Nor Jill for that matter.

well.... I'd /respec one of your scout XP lines over to trapping. Save yourself the heartache.

If, otoh, you think that's 'cheating', double trap something at or just above your level with a couple of phec darts, then bomb it with everything you've got in your bag. Wire mesh used to stack, since CU I've not bothered with anything but wires and phecs.

I have been hunting Rancors Cl50-95 and Kimos Cl80-? for the last few days.

I average from 2000-10,000XP for trapping per kill.

Yesterday hunting enraged Kimos I think they were CL83 I was getting upwards to 10,000 Rifle, 2-8000 trapping and 1000-2000 scouting so they were not bad.

Traps don't seem to stick nearly as much as now as tehy did last week so I know the resist have been upped a tad.

I was throwing more traps at rancor and kimos this weekend, and they were breaking the trap state more often.

More than once when I thought it safe to go prone and shoot a ranocr or kimo it was breaking the trap state forcing me to trap and run.

Curious - what kind of traps were you using?

And more importantly, what CL were you?

I am CL 80.

Since I was hunting with my daughter also She is Master TKM\Master Swords\Master Brawler CL 80.

We were out hunting Kimos together. The kimos ran and this is from memory so I know there are errors. From CL80-83 as I recall.

I was trying to pull the kimos from the pack nothing like pulling two or three at once. So I would close to 64ish fire one shot and run away trying to pull.

If I pulled one then I would throw P-darts til I stuck two or three on them.

Sometimes I threw adhesive but this was less than acceptable. Its hard to say it worked because when I threw them I had more than one Kimo on my butt.

Once I saw the SNARE message over my target I would go prone (master rifles here) and try Advanced snipershot if it work it worked. If not headshot and startleshot til dead.

Since my daughter was along and helping I threw glow wires to drop defenses. But the state doesn't last long enough for me.

Mostly I threw P-darts, the ocassional adhesive and glow wires to drop defenses down.

What I saw happening was Rancors and Kimos would get the SNARE message I would fire at them but then I would see them charge from time to time after I thought it was safe to go prone.

I spent the weekend hunting Enranged Rancors CL83 and Ancietn Bull Rancors CL95 (these hurt) Kimos, GDKs, CL80-83.

Use traps stay alive don't use them and die.

I was running around in my padded armor I looted the Cores from rancors, had them turned into padded armor resist 5100 across the board.

I now have Rebel Battle Armor resist are 5600, 51K condition I looted those cores yesterday off either Enraged Rancors or the Kimos I forget which now.

I am swearing by traps now days.

PS At one point yesterday when I pulled 3 Enraged Dune Kimos at once. First I told my daughter to run and don't look back.

Then I expended what P-darts I had remaining in my tool bar. In the end I had all three Kimos Snared and immobile for us to kill at our leisure.

The entire time I kept expecting one or more to break the snare and chase us down. I think I threw maybe 10-15 p-darts at those three.

edited for Ranger like spelling errors also.

And finally, what level of trapping were you?

I am a Master Ranger.

From what I have noticed this weekend the CL of the MOB did not matter. I got trapping XP from CL50 rancors and I got XP from CL95 Ancient Bull Rancors. Same for Kimos and Krayts.

It appeared that I was getting the same XP I got before the CU from trapping about 1000 XP for each trap that landed.

Yay..my theory still holds water! See..you have the high trapping mod, which allows you to trap the higher level critters.

WARNING! Unproven Theory Ahead...

Let's say a novice Ranger is trying to level trapping and has a combat level of 50. He can't trap level 50 critters, because his mod is too low, and if he traps a grey con mob, he only gets 1 xp. Therefore, it is impossible to level in trapping.

Alternatively, if said novice Ranger is in a group, it is even worse, becuase his CL will almost certainly become 80 meaning that level 50 mobs are now grey cons for him, AND he can't get a trap to stick on a level 80 critter becuase his mod is too low. It's a vicious cycle.

What I find strange is I can still collect scout XP from harvesting from MOBs lower than my CL.

I would have to verify the trapping part tonight.

Well, the harvesting xp is based on your harvesting mod (i.e. how much you actually harvest) still, at least in part...so, does the grey con status if a mob change this? In other words, were you harvesting grey cons and getting xp, or were the 'other than grey con?'

Im CL80 I I have had no problem with P-darts holding a CL82 creature. Some critters do seem to resist more than others however. (I have no problem getting the traps to stick to CL 82 Ravenous Tortons but a CL82 Savage Purgoiss can be a PITA trying to get traps to stick)

For Kimos and Rancors, I am not at all suprised that the traps break more frequently (given their level and the fact they are considered 'high end'). Also it does seem the 'aggressive' creatures are more likely to break or resist the trap effect.
