Commando's, Bounty Hunter's even Doctors got their requirements cut in half, why do Rangers still need all four trees as a pre req.? Or is my character builder old?

We were not "within the scope" of the CU. So, other some things that got broke getting fixed, there's been no change.

thanks for the answers, and I dont mean to belabour this, but is it going to change? With the respec for artisans a possibility I feel like moving from master artisan/master DE to Master scout/ranger. Is this non requirement for Rangers confirmed, ie has your correspondant brought it up and got a for sure answer?

Non-requirement? Not quite sure what you mean there, but, yes, the Dev's are aware of the SP sink, Owen has brought it up with them, and as he's not come rushing in waving a bit of paper yelling "I have the answer here..." I think he's not heard anything back that he can tell us.

If you look at the ranger branches now, you'll see that each grows out of one of the scout branch (that's what Bio meant when he said we were 'super scouts' -- so to answer your question ranger requires so much scout because right now scout defines our role.

There has been muchdebate over this here. Some would like to see the skill points reduced, but others feel that to do so wouldweaken the case that wewill able to make for getting all of our abilities reworked (rather than just deleted). For example, if the devs make ranger based only on two scout branches (harvesting and wilderness survival,f or the sake of argument), then we might loose our traps and our terrain negotiation mods (because we would lose the scoutpre-req branches for these things).

Owen is aware of this debate and is doing a good job of representing us.

Nothing'slikely to happenbefore the crafter skill respec though - but after that, well, uncertain the future is.

Well they did not, nor do they now consider Rangers a "combat class" (even if we are a fighting profession), thus they did not take Ranger into consideration when it came to us in the new CU.

The answer that Ranger is seen as scout plus begs the question because BH and Commando both were seen as needing all of marksman as a "combat class" because all of their skills came out of each weapon type from marksman and an additional need in scout and brawler respectfully. They are not longer viewed this way even though they use rifles, pistols, carbines and heavy weapons in their professions. So the justification that we are just an extention of scout only holds water if Commando and BH are viewed the same. Why do you think so many people now are BHs and Commandos that were not before because they could not or would not use that many skill points to try and master those professions. This is why some of the people who have been long time BHs and Commandos are upset about all the people who now have joined their profession through the respec and claim these people did not earn it like they did (it took them a lot longer to master their elite professions then it did other "combat professions" and a lot more skill points as well).

The other problem, which I do not believe has been addressed, is that each elite box in Ranger costs 1 more respec point than in any other elite profession. So not only are we the only profession left that must master a basic profession to get to their novice elite box, it costs us more in respec points as well. Plus we did not get any specials to use for fighting, which we do all the time, nor any signature weapons as well. So at this point we are back to "wait and see". As for now since you want and love Ranger you are going to have to pay the huge price to be one, which I am still going to do even with this system. But you have to make up your own mind about it.
