I was using these traps against the big bugs in the myyyndril caverns last night, and I was hitting them for 25-30 more points of damage after the trap landed. I know that 25-30 points isn't much when the critter has 12k health, but, hey, every little bit helps.

You just have to be careful because the trap is area effect. The effect radius doesn't seem too large, but if you land one on a critter parked next to another critter, then both are going to come after you.

This is even more deadly when combined with Carbineer - The "crow control" profession. Throw one of these traps and then use your Supression Fire and Full Auto Area. The trap will land some states, the supression fire isa very shortare +snare+ and full auto is are damage. Alternate supression and full auto until the trap wears off and reapply. You'll be taking down teams of critters in no time!

aren't scout trap droids still working? they allow you to launch traps without using up a combat round.

With a rifle that does 1000+ and a carbine that does 800, I can do far more damage by keeping that round a rifle round than by throwing a trap. However, the fact something will do less damage to me *is* appealing.

And after your sonic pulse, never forget to launch your blind trap that will blind all surrounding critters, lowering their accuracy !

If I could throw traps half as fast as I could fire my rifle I might think about using more than one trap. As things stand I only throw more than one if the first one wears off, or just for kicks if I'm in a group.

As a Carbineer, I have started to use my "crow control" moves in hunting. I have found that it's best to choose one of two strategies BEFORE entering battle:

1) Area of Effect (AoE): Use your AoE traps and your AoE specials. Make sure you keep states on the MOBs, keep them at a distance as much as possible and dose out the AoE damage. This is a riskier type of fighting but can come with significant reward since you're taking down many critters quickly. This works well with a Ranger/Carbineer combo and is helped a lot if you have friends in the group who can have AoE moves

2) Single Pull: I think this is generally agreed upon as bein the most effective and safest form of combat. Take down one critter at a time. All of our traps save 2 are good for this and most of the specials target one critter.

Most people discuss the Single Pull method since it is definitely a preferred play style, but it's good that we're explorign the AoE style of attack, how to do it effectively, and the utility of Ranger traps!

Yep - true. I think traps are really, really usefull in groups, where you have more time to throw them. With carbines I can pretty much get off two and a few shots before the first breaks. More than that and I feel like I'm just re-applying the same traps over and over. One thing that I do is turn my auto-attack on if there's no danger of the other critters agro'ing. That way I can just mash trap buttons. I also keep my knockdown in reserve in case the traps miss.

Thanks for all the tips about carbines AOE and traps guys! I'm going to try this later, and I'll let you know if I get eaten.

Well, you probably WILL get eaten once or twice. I only really use this tactic on Mobs that are lower level than me and in not too big a group. If the lair is spawning 15 Mobs and their all level 82 you may want to rethink the whole "AoE" thing

If Traps can damage creatures, and they are thrown, then why aren't they considered "thrown weapons" with an attack speed and factual damage stats on the item itself?

.... to remove evidence of it not working? We can't even see the figures of a trap.

hehe - the other ngiht I was helping a friend master pistoleer and we were taking down level 82 bantas on Tat when all of a sudden I see a big crowd of little red exclamation points over the herd and I didn't even have time to say 'you didn't just use an AOE' to my friend before we were trampled. I was proud of myself because I got two or three p-darts off against separate banthas before I got incapped. But, on the other hand, my area attack and a lot of kiting got me through soordan's wagers with a lot of time to spare. I just wish I had know about sonic pulse them - might have been even better lol.

Isn't Supression Fire broken at the moment? It was borked the last time I checked, but I haven't pushed that button in a while. lol
