Basically, i've wanted to play with ranger for like 2 years...even made a char on TC about half a year ago, Mrifleman/Mranger....didn't do too much but get killed by krayts...

I recently respec'd into Mranger with one of my many respecs (newly returning post cu to game) and I have to ask....WHY IN GOD'S NAME DO YOU DO IT?

Area track = complete crap....like 400 m or so is the best i can track stuff (i got a shuttleport outta an animal search...c'mon devs...)

Tents are really cool, but shoot, who really cares (btw, why cant I curse like a sailor on these forums? because some whiny brat might get upset?)

I did the respec so i could find the pirates/farmer/bladeback boar for the hero of tat quest...TO NO AVAIL....I'VE SEARCHED AS MUCH OF THE PLANET AS I POSSIBLY CAN!!!!

So, in ending, I give you Mrangers MUCH PRAISE It realllly, realllllllly soaks up the sp...the most in the game i'd say now....bh used to...not anymore....heck, i can only have mbh/mr/one box of medic.....not a good template i know, but in NO WAY will i get shorted on my bh xp if i screw up my respec...i WILL NOT re-train that (did it the hard way)

Anyway, just wanna know why you do it? I would say for me, it's the rp aspec of it, alone (kinda like jedi used to be a long, long time ago) in the wilds using your wits to survive....and besides, i've never seen a ranger in hawtpants spaming ads in the middle of endor....

Ranger is a lifestyle my friend. Not a profession. I have dabbled and mastered a few professions and none has called to me as Ranger does. If you dont understand why we do it then I dont think I could explain it to ya. Its a calling.

New home of SWG Rangers!

"Ranger isnt a profession. Its a lifestyle for sure. But upon the desert plains of Tattooine that wandering hermit you see was once a proud Ranger. It may not be a profession anymore but the lifestyle can never be lost, changed or deleted. "

I take alot of Flak from my brother who is a Msmuggler/Mcarbineer. He says im pretty much useless because Ranger does not have anything worth using.

However we went up against a Krayt and he was glad I was there. Since he took the argo the poptart did not work but it still did what it was supposed to do and slow the creature down. That alone made him eat his words.

Im in it for the play factor.

Rangers lead the way.

A Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air. I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.

you know, i'm wondering if actually grinding through to master ranger is part of it as we've seen a few of these posts lately from respecers wondering what's so great about ranger. admittedly, i wasn't all that excited about ranger when i first started grinding it, but it was really the only profession that appealed to me. going through, it though, learning the ins and outs of the profession itself as well as the other people who chose this lifestyle for themselves made me like it even more. of course, i never had any desire to be uber or l33t or anything like that....i just wanted to have fun with the game.

sure there are a lot of areas that we need work on, but the idea of ranger in and of itself...that being that we can travel anywhere and hunt the best and sell resources and people turn to us when they have questions about animals and tracking and etc. etc.....i don't know. it's not the actual specs of the profession itself that appeals to me....it's the idea behind it. and that's why i stick with it and, regardless of how other people in the game may feel that i have 'wasted' my sp, i'm proud of my master ranger tag.

I agree. I think its the journey to Master Ranger where we learn so much.

And I want to say to the original poster thank you for the compliment. I think all of us here are very proud of what we do. So proud we won't give it up.

I am another Master Ranger very proud of my Master tag.

There is a great freedom to being a ranger. You can explore every place there is to explore alone, or bring a group safely through perilous territories. I wrote this for my ranger Atheren on Bria:

Rangers are the true adventurers. They follow all the paths of men and beast and make their own paths as needed. Home is where they are. A ranger is guardian and protector of the land and those who travel it. A ranger must be brave, tireless and true of spirit. In the firelight of a rangers camp you will find friendship and an easing of your burdens, so sit and tell your tale, and rest in safety through the night.
