Thread: Tactical exchange: How do you fight?
- Specials used
- Items used
- Pets (if any) used
- If it is targeted against a specific type of creature, and if so what type
- Manuevers used with the above
Example
Crowd Control Oxymoron
- Ranged Shot and Aimed Shot.
- Rifle, high minimum damage is preferable
- 3 Female Narglatches
- This is targeted against creatures on Dathomir that use area attacks.
- Most of the lairs of Ancient Bull Rancors I have come across are in close proximity to another creature lair. What I do is use that to my advantage. I have my pets initiate an attack with the Ancient Bull Rancor I am attempting to pull, and tell them to stay right next to a creature who will have it's lair buddies gang up on the Ancient Bull Rancor when it uses an area attack against my Narglatches. After it draws their aggro, I P-Dart it, tell my pets to follow me, hit it with another P-Dart, then tell them to follow it (because of the bug with those commands during combat.) This allows me to quadruple my damage output in combat, because the creatures that are near the Ancient Bull Rancor, my creatures, and myself are all damaging it. This takes approximately 7 minutes to take down the creature.

* Advanced Laser Rifle
* 3 Female Narglatches/droid
* This is pretty much my MO used for all types of lair clearing, although I use different traps for Ranged shooters.
* I like to get about 70-80 meters away from the lair, target a creature, send in the 3 Ladies to pull one far enough away from the lair so that when I start with my trap and rifle, it won't agro the remaining creatures. Once the creature and the pets have met halfway, I send the droid to attack, then I throw a trap usually a p-dart, but for ranged shooters, I like glow traps or L-darts some others I've tried that I like but can't think of the names at the moment, and start with Ranged shot and Blind, then as it starts heading towards me, I hit it with a Torso shot and then alternate between Ranged shot and Torso. Now if its a non ranged mob, and the p-dart sticks, it'll either die before reaching me or be very close to it as it reaches me. If the trap don't stick then its a matter of taking what it gives me and hope the pets don't go into non attack mode. Ranged creatures are the worse using this tactic and I've not worked out a decent strategy for this other then to take what it gives me and kill it as quick as I can.
Looking forward to see other strats, would like to get more ideas this has always seemed to work pretty well so I've just stuck with it. This is when I'm solo, with a group its completely different, but mostly I solo and this works well for me.
- Leg Shot, Rapid Fire, Charge Shot, Crippling Shot
- E11 Mark 2, phecnacine dart
- No pets
- Solo creature lairs, solo random hunting
- Starts with a Phecnacine Dart, followed by crippling shot which is a pretty short duration snare, if the trap stuck then I lay in with alternating leg shot and rapid fire. If the creature decides to move I will charge shot and usually the damage bonus is enough to finish the creature off with another leg shot or rapid fire. If it's something that's too big to take out during the snare time, usually a second trap while the other one is active will serve to adequately sedate the creature for a longer time.
Group Nuker
- Leg Shot, Rapid Fire, Ranged Shot
- E11 Mark 2
- No pets
- group hunting of anything, creatures, NPC's etc.
- Wait for other player to do some damage first, usually at least 15% of the creature's ham, sometimes 10% if it's a bigger creature. This is so that when I start shooting with Ranged Shot and do 300 damage it doesn't immediately draw the attention of the target, who with my limited defense tends to lay me to waste rather quickly. If there's an armor break or a knockdown, I'll lay in with a Legshot for around 1000 damage as that usually means someone else is on the ball and going to town on the target too. If not and it's just me and a tank I wait for the take to get some hate, and I'll warm up the target with a rapid fire or two before I hit it with the big damage leg shot. Usually if I'm careful I can avoid agro all together and come out unscathed, keeping the doctors alive and keeping the tanks tanking. If I over special early I draw agro, start taking damage and it get tough from there. The healer is trying to keep me alive, then themselves, and the tank isn't getting help from the healer who's occupied.
Moral of the story, don't out-hate your tanks.
Gorax Hunting
-Improved critical, improved body shot, stopping shot, improved underhand if needed
-Featherweight FWG5, p-darts, sonic pulses, glow wire
-I draw aggro with a glow wire at 48m. Then I hoof it to the nearest lair. Always a lair nearby up on that plateau. When the gorax gets to the lair, I hit him with a stopping shot. Then I run up to him and let him use his AoE dizzy/blind/stun. This hits the lair and everything around it starts tanking for me. (I like blurrg hunters the best, but anything will do.) Then I lob a sonic pulse if no other creatures are by him (that's why I like blurrgs-- ranged attackers) and back off, alternating improved crit and improved body. Sometimes a throw a warning shot in for extra damage, especially if sonic pulse isn't an option. When the root wears off, I hit him with a p-dart. If it permaroots, bah, too easy. Plug away until he's dead. If it works normally, run circles around him while shooting. Reapply stopping shot as it becomes available. Use improved underhand for a KD for extra distance if needed. Avoid being stomped on. Dead gorax in less than 2 minutes.
With my FWG5, I hit for around 650 with improved crit and 590 with improved body shot, slightly more if he's been sonic pulsed or warning shot. The various level 50-65 ish critters all tag him for around 130 each every 2 seconds or so. Negates his regen and then some, especially if four or five are spitting at him. My template is Master Ranger, Pistolier 4/0/0/4, BH 0/4/3/0.

"Fallen but not forgotten."
- Firearm Strike, Ranged Shot, Head Shot, Knee Shot, Aim, Burst Run
- Advanced Laser Rifle, high speed preferred.
- Dueterium Pro (ranged accuracy drink, gets up to 200+ for a few minutes at 16 filling), P-Darts.
- This is targeted against solo'ing creatures that you could take a few hits from without getting incapped.
- I walk up to them, use Firearm strike to knock 'em down, throw a P-Dart, run away while using Head Shot, when I get far enough away I Aim and drink the Dueterium, Head Shot again, Knee Shot, run back a little more to bring the creature in circles, then throw a P-Dart again. Usually after a few more Head Shots and Ranged Shots they're down.
