Foraging this morning, inventory at 88% - no backpack or invis/missing items.

Attempt one - success but get message saying inventory is full, so item is discarded.

Attempt two - success and small pice of food appears in my inventory.

Anyone else had this inv full message while foraging, with space in inv ?

I get that somewhat regularily. I joke that I found another dinosaur bone but I'm guessing it's really just a bug.

All the time. However, I'm starting to just take it as a failure since most of the time it works. I've even had the message come up and then next try a success. Yes, this is a bug, is it top priority, I don't feel it's that big of an issue. It will be fixed some day, just give them time and live with it. Sorry if this message sounds nasty, i'm really not trying to sound that way, but it's not that bad. I've seen worst bugs, like the porting camper.

Helton - Novice Ranger - Eclipse

This is a known "bug". The time that you got the bit about a full backpack actually means you found a rare item. The game has no rare items for this... yet. Therefore the generic error routine kicks in and displays what you saw about the container being full.
