I asked this on the Rifleman forum, but got no response, so here it is here:

Does a Rifleman's Cover skill modifier bonus (from his Concealment Techniques tree) add to the Ranger's Camouflage skill modifier bonus (from the Wayfaring tree)?

Anyone?

Cover makes you harder to hit from range (signifigantly, in fact). It is a different status. If the oponent comes in close and brawls you are skrewed.

Rangers camo assists in masked scent rolls (minor effect) and at certain levels makes the mob have to look around for you to try to find you, often giving you a few extra shots before finding you and attacking. Posture can enhance this effect. Success on masked scent will add more "shots" you can get off as well.

Thanks, I was wondering. But if that's the case, then why is Conceal Shot a Rifleman ability?...Doesn't it seem like it would fit right into the Camouflage kind of related skills area instead? I mean, if Cover makes it harder to hit you at range, but doesn't actually conceal you at all, then a) why call the tree that gives it "Concealment"? and b) why is it that MOB's don't seem to see you when you use Conceal shot (even though it doesn't have anything to do with camouflaging you from their sight)?

Just some thoughts/questions, because I'm trying to max out my hiding/sniping abilities and I'm trying to find out what combos might work best to augment those abilities. Thanks

Your camoflauge modifier (granted by Exploration and Wayfaring) helps maskscent and cover succeed, according to the hover text over Camoflauge. I don't have Cover, so I can't confirm that it actually does help, but I've read posts by ranger/riflemen who say it does help...

I am also a Ranger / Rifleman. It depends on what you are shooting. Npcs no the wayfaring only helps on creatures, and after three shots you have to go to the kneeling because after the third shot no matter if you have masked your scent or not it will come after you. Conceal shot now that is good to use because you can fire upon anything and it cant figure out where you are shooting from. Those are two different skills used for different things.

My experience has been ( since Beta up till now , hunting every day for an hour or two sometimes more on weekends ) that a MOB will aggro on you after your third shot , no matter what .

No matter what .

If you have mask scent , cover , high cammo , doesn't matter . My cammo is right up to the fouth box and this hasn't changed for me at all since Beta .

If you stand , you shoot once and they immediately attack you , if you kneel you can shoot twice before they attack and if you lie prone you can shoot three times maximum and then they will come after you and attack . This has been the absolute rule for my game play experience . I have my attack pattern revolving around this game feature .

I lie prone at range , I fire off Mindshot I , Mindshot II and then I switch to my Pistol and do a Bleed shot from the BH line , now the MOB is attacking . I throw a trap while running in the opposite direction , if it connects I run out to range and follow up with Eye Shots , if it fails I retrap and heal and repeat until it clicks .

I have never gotten off more than three shots before a MOB has attacked me ever , and I got off three shots in prone on my first day , and I get off three shots now that I'm master this , that and the other thing .

We've been throwing around the idea of a " hunting blind " structure that would be similar to the blinds hunters use in real life , it prevents the animal from noticing you right up until it's dead . Of course in this game that would be lame , so adding another 2 or 3 or more shots depending on your camping skill ( to determine the effectiveness of the structure you built ) is all we would ask for .

Good luck all
