Thread: idea: 'terrain speed' instead of 'terrain negotiation'?
ok, i'll start with an apology if this has already been suggested. sadly enough i don't keep as tight of tabs on this forum as when i was still grinding away. alas, i have an idea that may or may not be original, but was inspired by the discussion of the +terrain negotiation skill mod that combat medics get.
i was thinking about the differences between scout and ranger of late, namely that scout gets a +camoflage mod and ranger gets a +conceal mod. before we had /conceal, that mod was +camoflage for us as well. i think that a similar distinction should be made for rangers.
right now, 1-50 tn buffs uphill running, and 51-100 buffs prone crawling. there are extremely limited uses for prone crawling (namely, everyone who's not a rifleman doesn't need this or probably want it). so, instead of having a useless/unwanted skill mod, they could make 50-100 buff open ground movement. the problem i see with that is that alot of professions have a terrain negotiation buff, and if they have that and then take explortion, they can be as fast as a ranger, which kind of defeats the purpose of changing 50-100 to speed.
instead, they should make a new skill mod that ranger gets. instead of giving an extra 45 terrain negotiation, give us 45 (50 dammit! i want my 5 at master back!) points in a new terrain skill mod that buffs open ground speed expressly. call it 'terrain speed' and make it increase overall movement speed. i don't know that the difference from +0 tsto +45 ts should be as big as the difference between +0 tn and +50 tn, as that might be making us a little too fast, and hard to control.
well, that's my idea in a rough draft. please criticize or add your own ideas to the mix, and again, if this has been thrown out there before, i apologize. also, i openly admit that there are other, far more important issues which need attention much more than this does. like all that good stuff that was promised to us nearly 2 months ago in late august. nevertheless, 'if we always settle for good enough, will it ever be good enough?' ![]()
It has been stated by the developers in the past that they have no interest in making any player faster over flat terrain than any other player.
In the case of Mounts... To compensate for the added speed, they appear to be eliminating the ability to perform special moves during combat.
So, it's doubtful we will see a change to non-mounted player speed. ![]()
poop. well, thank you for clearing that up nraas.
i guess i can still hold out hope that they'll change their minds someday! ![]()
