Thread: Ranger and _____ suggestions?
I'm a wannabe ranger, closing in on master scout now (4, 3, 1, 4). I also have all marksman carbine levels. I'm quickly seeing that carbines may not be the best choice with the ranger/scouting skills. We all know that rangers can't solo without some other fighting class, so suggestions would be appreciated.
Suggested considerations: How many traps affect which stats, how much, and how many are there? Is rifle really all that effective now that we can't attack without breaking maskscent/conceal? Is carbine really the happy medium between rifle and pistol? Is melee a better way to go now that all maskscent/conceal are good for is getting really close without being noticed? Which melee would be more useful? Would rifle still be useful if coupled with 2H melee, or would another combo be better such as carbines/polearms (both attacking action)?
Thanks in advance!
"Pistol, Health bleeds, 1 armor piercing weapon. Lower Damage, faster speed , Minimal Melee Damage mods. Body shots"
dx2 pistol is at novice pistoller, the only marksman/pistoller pistol with armor light.
enjoy and have fun thats the most important
In the Ranger Line there are 2 traps , Flash Bomb and Sonic Pulse. Flash Bomb is an area Blinding trap, Sonic is an area Dizzy trap. I can't remember if they do damage or not. I have yet to tell if the area effect works correctly.
The Rangers most effective traps right now are Scout Traps. Does that meen that the Trapping line In ranger isn't worth it.? Nope, with 2 new traps and one special ability "rescue". You can Hit successfully most of the times with traps. On your average creature hunt. Some of the end game creature appear to be either immune or resistant.

Pick what weapon You like to use. but here are some things to ponder. (This applys to Marksman level skills, Not novice sharpshooter, pistoleer or Carbineer)
Pistol, Health bleeds, 1 armor piercing weapon. Lower Damage, faster speed , Minimal Melee Damage mods. Body shots
Carbine, action bleeds, a few more armor piercing weapons, Mid range damage, mid range speed. mid range Melee Damage Mods. (Ham Cost can kill ya quick) action shots
Rifle, Mind Bleeds , Mind shots, 2 Armor Medium guns, 1 armor Heavy gun and 2 Armor Light guns, Higher Damage, Slower speed, 2.5x melee damage mod.
If you chose a Ranged weapon and Venture to Go beyond that of marksman, here are some other things.
Pistol, Some broken skills, nice defensive vs effects, stun, dizzy, etc. High end pistol is currently kinda flaky for damage vs armored creatures. (according to pistoller forum.
Carbine, Some more Busted Skills, Crazy HAM costs, Good crowd control.
Before I get into rifle, it is my weapon of choice. I Like it. Some do some don't
Rifle Gets better as you move up in special abilites, faster speed, faster damage. Area of effect shots (cone of damage).
Melee Combat Skills. Most popular seems to be TKA, then Two handed Sword, fencer and last polearm. No real comments as to them. If you have brawler skills and you enjoy it then thats all that really matters.
Don't rule out Creature Handling either.
Basically every class has its perks, and its weakness. People will rant and rave about oh Rifle sucks, fencer sucks , Pistollers are uber, BLEH BLEH BLEH, TO the lot of em.
If you are happy with a weapon. Stick with it.
Now if you intend on Mastering Ranger, Your skill points are gonna get Real tight Really Fast. More Importantly Those Novice Boxes with 15 skill points, (I gave up artisan a while ago)
I happen to be a 3-0-1-4 rifleman, 3-4-0-4 Creature Handler. I know another master ranger that is a master ch/pistol another who is a bounty hunter(LLC)
Everyone pretty much stuck with they enjoy and like.
I would advise You do the same.

I believe SR Combat Pistols(or something similar) also have light armor piercing, but i could be wrong.
I might be a little bit rusty but I don't remember the Sr Combat Pistol being in Marksmen or Novice Pistoleer Lines.
Do you get SR combat Pistol certifcation From Marksman and Pistoller Lines?
Im not talking about Commando or Bounty Hunter weapons etc
I am a Ranger/carbines that hunts and kills anything I want to without the help of other PC's.
Here is how:
Ranger 0,0,4,0 allows me to track anything
Creature Handler 2,2,1,1 alows me to have some nice strong pets, only drawback can only call one at a time
Carbineer 0,4,0,0 Carbiner -crippleshot and Carbine accuracy improvements
Bounty hunter 0,4,0,0 underhand shot, fire knockdown, and confusion shot - accuracy and speed improvements
and of course the required Master Scout and Master Marksman
the sr combat pistol is in the marksman pistol line. it sucks though. sure it has armor piercing, but it's slow, has high ham costs, and relatively low damage. unsliced you can pick one up for 70-130dmg and 3.0 spd. i'll check mine right now. mine is 74-149 2.4spd sliced. ham costs are 26, 42, 15. range modifiers are horrible as well. -78 @ 48m. 48m is its max range.
