The idea of lowering the cost of the Bounty Hunter profession has been put for as an idea by the developers. This would mean that the only skill we have that makes Rangers special and that we can be proud will be an even more "Must Have" from the Bount Hunter community. I do not begrudge anyone the ability to dabble. Normally, I would say "hell yes, go get that skill boy." Unfortunantly, all of our skills with the exception of tracking can be done with scout. Tracking is the only skill that really sets us apart from the scout line. If every Bounty Hunter takes up our 1 unique skill, then we will truely be nothing more than an expensive waste. With the tracking line becoming a part of every bounty hunters template almost by default, we will be in even more competition with a profession that has nothing to do with harvesting or hunting.

I feel abit ashamed for even complaining about this. But I also hate the idea of our 1 unique and useful skill practically being given away even easier.

No unique weapon, No generous difference between our base profession mastery and our elite profession mastery and now soon to be no unique skill. Maybe we should ask for a reduction in our own skill cost then... I would just love to be able to use the light lightening cannon.......(sigh)

I believe the reduction will come by removing some of the required prereq skills. If the reduction comes on the scout side then this is likely to not be much of a concern. On the Marksman side, rifles seems an obvious thing to remove. As the rifle requirement seems more likely to disappear than the scouting ones, this could be a problem but I don't think it is too much of a worry. The Devs should hopefully improve the other Ranger lines eventually as well. Just remember that they are spending the same number of skill points on that skill as anyone else that wants it.

Edit: wording.

So I guess what you're saying is that we're an "expensive waste", but we're not expensive enough or not enough of a waste to completely exlude all other classes that wish to dabble? I agree with that, lol. I'd be willing to bet that there are already more 0-0-x-0 rangers than masters right now. But what is the solution? The problem isn't that people can get our measly 30% harvesting bonus merely(!) by sinking 77 points into scout and 20 more into ranger (rofl) it's that nobody with a straight face can sink their points into anywhere else in the ranger tree other than trackingif they care about their ability to hunt and survive in the wilderness and are at all concious about their skill point spending. That's the real problem. Once some other valuable things are put into our tree in the revamp this problem will solve itself.

Gold,

Agreed, if there where something else Ranger defining in the skill trees then the loss of the uniqueness of tracking would not be such a bother. But given that a revamp is more likely in the tail end of 2005 for our future, the fact that tracking is so easy to get burns me abit.

For example, the following situation happend the last time I went out to hunt Black Sun.

I was passively hunting Black Sun and harvesting carni meat on Yavin. I had been out there for many hours. During that time, I had helped 2 groups locate spawns. They got their armor and life was good. After they left I went back to my hunting and eventual a new batch of groups came out also looking for Black Sun. I offered my services gratis to all 3 groups since I actually enjoy leading people their prey. "Gives me that Safari Leader" feeling. After each offer I was told no thank you because the Bounty Hunter in each group already had tracking 4. Well, it was then I realised that with the amount of BH's taking the tracking line in Ranger that for most extents and purposes I was just a Master Scout that hada neat magic trick I get to use for the benefit of someone else every now and then. The thing is, I enjoy having the Ranger title. I take pride int he fact that I Mastered a profession that has never really been seen as worth the points, but that offers a certain pride after having been achieved. (I mastered when camping was still a hellish grind.) I also never wanted another profession other than Ranger since I first learned of the game. But that does not mean that I have to like seeing our individuality as a profession being bitten off a chunk at a time.

Let the BHs all take up tracking.

If you haven't noticed, most marks don't spawn til the BHs are pretty close, usually within 100m. I noticed this the other week, and have been keeping tabs on it. Not unlike the "mission will not spawn until the owner gets close" stealth nerf I have seen in a group.

So take up tracking all you BHs. And then ask for waypoints, you bunch of non compass reading, couldn't find your butts with two hands and a flashlight, can't pour pee outta a boot with the instructions written on the heel, types. Not all, just most.

New saying - Bounty Hunters - can screw up a free lunch.

I agree - we really, really need more incentive to keep the other trees. The stuff other three trees is interesting and maybe a little useful if you are willing to be creative / patient, but the two skills that most define our profession are in the tracking tree. People can climb the tracking tree and get 90% of the benefits of being a master ranger. I'm not advocating moving these skills to other trees though -- instead, I would much rather see the other trees enchanced to be as useable as the tracking tree. When, or, if this will ever happen.... who knows....

BAH! Don't feel bad for expressing your opinions. That is part of what the discussion forums are about. I complained like holy h-e-l-l as they nailed the coffin of camps shut with a good amount of peeps telling me I was wrong. I still don't think I am and I miss camping. Probably one of the most cool game mechanics shot to h-e-l-l.

Your correct on this matter and I totally agree. It seems like what a good amount of BH want and when it comes down to it tracking is our most usefull skill line. I held 0-0-3-0/TKM/Master Brawler for months and, quite frankly, I miss that template. I'm mastering Ranger now because I think I should seeing as how I've been a Ranger for so long now. Most peeps I know think I'm a master anyhow.

In the end though, I'm a Ranger because I'm a hunter. It's what I do and who my character is. Out of all my branches the only one I use is Tracking. I don't track peeps because I don't hunt them. Maybe the solution is to give the BH people/NPC tracking abilities. I don't use that ability. Not sure if many other Rangers do.

The reason most BH's have been taking up tracking is the bugged missions. Very often once we are in range of the waypoint where the mark is, it isn't there and the droids will update them as being at that spot.

Using tracking we can pinpoint where it actually is (they appear to be either invisibleor spawning underground),this can be a couple hundred meters fromwhere the droids are indicating.

Once the actual location is known, we can set off a bomb droid or draw a creature to it and use an area attack special to draw the mark to the surface and engage.

I'd bet the majority of us would much rather spend those skill points in something that'd be more helpful (pistols or carbines). But when a single mission can take upwards of30 to 45 minutes and 'invisible' marks can happen multiple times in a row, you can see why alot of us have it.

Thank you for posting this viewpoint here . I think it sheds at least a little light on the plight of the BH.

That's why I have it.
