Thread: the good old ranger/rifleman build

About two weeks ago some friend told me I should go out and buy this game and play with them. Honestly I wasnt really wanting to spend the cash for it but told them that if they went and bought it I would play. Well here I am now.

When I first started playing I well in love with rifles and rifleman right away. Formy second job I was leaning towords the doctor path but honesty I'm not a big fan of the whole crafting/harvesting OQ PE stuff, I just donthave any fun running around planets for two hours finding a spot to put a harvestor.

SoNow I'm looking at ranger, mainly because itis really interesting and I love to just roam and be out on my own.Plus my guild doesnt have one and we do like to do alot of guild events where weend up spending alot of time searching for mobs.

My last question is this - after MR/MRM I have 18 points left. Right nowI do have master medic and find the healing I can do is awesome in/after fights.

So 15 points would be used up on novicemedic. and I have 3 points left to put somewhere. PhamacologyI is looking like the bestbet because then i was thinking of finding some tapes and what not to getmy Med use up to 30+ and I could use Stim-C's...

I was just wondering what some other rifleman/rangers have done and if my plan would be a really goodone

Thanks all

Medic is always a good choice, but I have noticed a lot of Riflemen Rangers grab some CH for tanking and whatnot .

I've got the Ranger/Rifleman thing, went for novice medic and first aid 1. I'm rarely buffed and need that swift stim to keep me going if someone gets within range to punch me as lacking armour and buffs, i'm in for a quick ass whippin'. Either way, Ranger is a great choice, we're all great people, and really really nice ....just don't expect to be 'owning' anybody or thing!

I'm a Ranger/Pistoleer so I tend to find myself needing heals a lot more often as I'm usually in the thick of the mob. I spent my 18 points on Novice Medic and Diag 1 simply to heal a bit faster. Stim B's do just fine if they're of good quality (400+/35+uses) which would equal out to about a 600-700 point heal.

And like Calculus said, a lot of Rangers are going the way of CH. This way, you just let your critter take the beating while you heal them with PetStims while prone in a bush.

Either way, stick with Ranger. We don't do much pwnage, but we have our pride.

Thanks for all the help everyone, it has been extremly useful.

Now I have one last question. What would be a good setup for my HAM and sub stats. Currently they are -

400

400

400

400

400

400

1100

800

800

when I was first going to be a doctor and had the buffs. I find them really nice at this because rifleman abillties take up alot of mind. But now I should get them abit more rounded out. I will be buffed every so offen by guildamates or if I really want to drind fast, but if when they wear off I dont want to feel gimped or have to leave the fight.

thank you so much again everyone

This is an extremely difficult question to answer... because of the combat balance.

Depending on whether you have plans to PvP or not you may want to consider upping those H & As. In PvE you might not always want to waste time looking for a buff. Having higher Health and Action would be beneficial especially if you have some medic skills. With Medic you don't need to worry about regeneration because you give yourself mini bursts with each health pack.

With the advent of a "Specials Bar" you won't necessarily need such high mind stats to accomodate the rifle requirements. I'm not sure how this is going to play out in the final build of the new combat system, but you might find it more beneficial to send stats more evenly through Health and action to address this.

For now I'd consider keeping your primary HAand M high with more consentration on the secondaries in the mind area.

This could all get thrown out of whack soon though.

That would be my assessment based on PvE hunting. I cannot speack towards PvP at the moment. This will prevent you from buffing as often when doing smaller things, and allow you some area of safety in your Mind bar as with Rifleman you will go through it FAST.

I have a question to all the Master Rangers who have rifles. Did you master rifles and have to drop novice medic, or did you master both rifles/ranger, drop the ranged support line, and keep novice medic?

When I finish the final box of the 4th (speed) line of rifles in the next couple of days, I'll have enough XP to master rifles, but I'll have to drop my novice medic box which lets me heal with stim-Bs.
I always thought having the ranged support line in marksman was too valuable to give up, even for medic. I enjoy having suppression fire and use it often as a tactic. But if I had medic, even novice, I think I'd survive longer and could sacrifice the small bonuses that ranged support gives.

Just wondering if other Ranger/riflemen drop the ranged support or if they keep it and sacrifice med skills?

This is a predicament I deal with Daily.

I love being able to heal myself... when I'm buffed I don't need to worry about that of course. And would prefer to be able to smack down some RS stuff (especially supressing fire). But when I'm not buffed I need that medic stuff.

Everyday I log on and think about dropping medic...

And when I do... I think about dropping RS.

It is an ongoing predicament for every Master Ranger/Master Rifleman.

Combat XP will come very quickly once you master Rifleman. And Novice is just a 100 credits away. Try both and see which fits your playstyle best. They both have huge benefits.

Depends upon your race of course but that does me fine. With neutron pixie, brandy, canapes, and medic 0-1-0-0 I do fine. I fight without armor. MRM gets most things down before they get to me and camps heal me up quite nicely when it comes to wounds. Of course if you dont mind getting buffed before doing anything stick with your stats. Tho, 400 will find you incapped quick often if not prepared.

Good point! I hadn't thought of that really. At master rifles, the ranged support line won't be so hard to raise. Doesn't seem so difficult to surrender now.

Check my build, it is pretty solid. I droped Ranged Support from marksman and got CH and a Bio-pet-mount.Youshould have the prereqs and can go up one tree to the third box, given19challange levels to work with.If you get it (the pet) engineered right, you can group with it, send it in to collect the mobs in one place and do AoE. You can also "snipe" from /conceal and do pretty good that way, and the pet comes in handy on guard mode if you are seen. It's better, in my opinion, to search from a mount if you are looking for something like Avian meat for docs then just going in back and forth to missions.

Well, then again, it used to be. Sense the natural spawns are more fleeting now, that is not always true. But I still make good time and you can always switch to the bike going to the OP and back and ride while going from mission to mission and hunt strays.

I am MR
Rifleman (doing Sniper tree)
I also have been doing CH (Pack Master)
also Novice Medic (with First Aid 1)

I find the CH skills are a great complement to Ranger! I have a lvl 25 Razor Cat and it makes a great tank. Also you can go on trips to tame aggressive creatures (it's fun and different from hunting)

Good Hunting!
