Thread: Ranger Weapon line (idea)

Was thinking about the need for a Ranger only weapon and came up with this idea.

I suggest moving the trap schematics from the Trapping Row of Ranger and into the Tracking Row, freeing up the last Row for a Line devoted to the use of a Ranger Hunting Rifle (or crossbow or carbine or whatever would go good for a Ranger to use to hunt.

Here is a list of skill mods that would go into it:

-pluses to Ranger Weapon Accuracy- in the weapon line

-pluses to Ranger Weapon Speed- in the weapon line

-pluses for posture change- in the row with conceal (forgive me i forget the name of the row and i'm a ranger on lowca for goodness sakes)

-pluses for Def vs. KD, Stun, Dizzy, Intimidate (yes intimidate) for all the critter they encounter.

You guys can decide the numbers of the defenses.

And then you'd need some specials for the Ranger Weapon.

-One special could be a Ranged KD with a chance to dizzy/stun/blind separately or all three for a critical hit.

-Another would be a high damaging attack that evenly hits on all 3 bars but a slow speed modifier.

-Another would be a quick barrage of bolts that could intimidate the target, but small damage.

-And then maybe a shot similar to riflemans conceal shot, but would only work while maskscented or concealed via Ranger skills and not the Rifles Cover state.

The ranges on this weapon would be unique in that it is perfect for long ranges, but can have moderate damage at medium and close distances for thos critters that get up close and personal.

Now I know that you could just get master rifleman and call it at that, but would'nt it be better to have a row dedicated to combat similar to the Smuggler Dirty Fighting row? I think so.

Anyway its just an idea, it couldn't hurt to mention it at least.

Thanks for reading.

I think comparing a ranger weapons line to smuggler dirty fighting is an interesting way of saying it.

a ranger bow/crossbow could either be crafteable by only rangers, or by weaponsmiths if given a schematic.

anyway, these are great ideas but have been said before. all we can do is hope....

RIFLES SUCK.

Having said that - why do 90% of the people who want a weapon want a freaking rifle?? They are slow and getting slower. I want speed and power, hence I am a pistoleer.

Please go read some back posts - Ranger Bow - not crossbow, that steps on the Wooks toes, and as I like my arms attached, we are not doing that.

You would get the schematic at Novice, and get different arrows in the camping line, making it semi useful again. Rangers gather the material and get an artisan to make the bow, prolly a Master Weaponsmith, but we can make the arrows.

For the record, I was originally against the bow idea, but it grew on me, and it makes sense, as it offends no weapons classes.

To appease our melee ranger friends you'd have to throw a second weapon for melee users. What it could possibly be, I aint got the slightest idea.

For a melee ranger-specific weapon, it would obviously have to be something that isn't going to fall under other classes. That rules out pretty much anything that doesn't fall under the 'exotics' heading.....I'm thinking possibilities would be a weighted chain (or non-ranged bola), possibly a net, tonfa...not a lot to work with.

Another possibility would be dual-weilded small sized melee weapons. Tonfa would be perfect for this. It obviously wouldn't be an over-damaging weapon, so it's not going to terribly unbalance the mechanics, and it's beensaid that dual-weilding was originally coded in for pistoleers (IIRC), so it's possible there as well.

As a TKA, Im fine with the bow idea JB mentioned. To be honest, I didn't take up TKA to kill monsters at close range, I took up TKA for the melee defense so thecreatures wouldn't kill me. The bow thing is cool.

I couldn't sleep and while I was laying in bed I got to thinking about this. I'm not sure if its been said since I haven't been keeping up on the forums that much as of late and I'm too lazy to go look so feel free to flame or whatever(like Rangers even do that, aside from JB).

Why not have the Ranger specific weapon have an ability, like a trap so to speak. As an example, we could have a Ranger bow that can single pull creatures. You start out with a 5% chance to pull at novice then go 2%, 3%, 5%, 10% up the lines until you hit Master Ranger and then you get another 15% at master. I just used 100% success as an example but thats probably too overpowering. So essentially at Master you will always be able to single pull a creature. That should benefit both ranged and melee Rangers, unless your one of those crazy TKA who go out fully armored and buffed and take 15 rancors on at a time. In my opinion being able to take a creature one on one would be a huge advantage for us, especially if the combat rebalance makes it so Rancors and other tough creatures aren't soloable anymore.

You could also add stealth dmg to the attack, like a sneak attack. Maybe the attack does 5% dmg to the targets pool instead of a set number so you cant just go around 1 hit killing low lvl stuff. The bow would only be usable on the 1st attack and if the creature wasn't in attack mode. This idea might not make us faster in killing our prey but it should allow us to kill more efficiently since we would be going 1 on 1 almost all the time.

We could also have a hunting knife that does basically the same thing but for harvesting.

Anyway those are my ideas and they could just be the insomnia talking so feel free to shoot them down if you think they suck.

RIFLES SUCK.

Having said that - why do 90% of the people who want a weapon want a freaking rifle??

It wasnt so long ago i remember everyone and their granny wanted to go pistol, due to the simple fact they had the best dps. They got nerfed, rifle got beafed (too much) now everyone wants to go rifle because its the most powerfulest.

Ive been a rifleman since launch and ive seen the community fade and grow. Over in the rifleman forums the attitudes and ideas used to be like our here.

We couldnt hit for anything, we were far too slow, we had no defenses, mobs would warp everytime and hit us for 2.5x damage and most of our specials were borken. Since then things have obviously changed, rifleman got fixed, became powerfull but the devs for some reason forgot to put the 2.5x melee multiplyer back in

Now we are overpowered and all the powergamers want rifleman so the rifleman community has sunk to new levels of low now wanting to hold onto their power simple because they want to be the most powerfullest player there is.

Thats enough on rifles anyway. It makes sense to make our ranged weapon a rifle because of the RL hunting rifles most commonly used in hunting.

As for melee weapons i agree we need one.

How cool would it be to see a ranger shooting at long range doing insane damage with the Ranger Hunting Rifle, then controlling using traps then running in close quarters with the Hunting Katana (Blade style sword) to finish the beast off? hmmm sounds cool to me

Ultimatly we need a long range rifle and a melee weapon that can ONLY be used in pve with huge bonuses.
