I've had enough of it. I'm quiting it...
So, what other combat classes should I try because pistoleer is obviously broken, maybe until the next patch, maybe beyond. You didn't think I was talking about quiting ranger did you? Heh, like the sig says, ranger isn't my "profession".
Anyhow, lets get down to the nitty gritty. I was thinking about taking up a melee class, one that wields something more than fists. Fencer, Swordsman, or Pikeman. TKA isn't a good choice in my opinion because of the high kinetic resist on some of the creatures we have grown to know and fondle.
Your thoughts, your opinions, advice, guideance, enlightenments, epiphanies, your flames to be extinguished.
(I am kinda leaning towards fencer since I've become accustomed to the dodge bonuses.)

I exchanged my pistoleer skills for Creature handler. I am still a 0-0-1-1 Pistoleer tho.
I have heard Rifleman is exceptional right now.

i think tk works really good. its nice being able to heal your own wounds and get rid of those pesky diseases and poisons. on the other hand ive ran into the problem you mentioned about damage restrictions. ive hunted with alot of swordsman/woman and there isnt much they cant take down. so ive decided if i ever drop tk it will be probably for swords.

Yea, swords seems to be the favored melee professions. I think I might try that route.
Thanks for your inputs

I used to be Master Ranger/Pistooler...dropped ranger, dropping pistoleer...going for TKA/Rifleman now and later Swordsman/Rifleman for a change.

If you make your money selling resources then I would not bother with Fencer since it will take you longer to kill each creature.
How about heavy swordsman, you get a special that allows you to damage multiple targets at once, that would really speed things up.

Not to mention that with Heavy Swordsman, you'd have the chance to do blast damage with hammers, which could really be helpful sometimes. I've thought a couple of times about changing from rifles to a melee for a different sort of feel to combat, but I've never been able to take the leap... I just love being a rifleman so much...

Give pikeman a try. Its awesome. The major problem with pike is that you will miss a lot at first. once you hit novice pikeman though... wow. We also have multiple spin attacks and area attacks.

Well i have mastered all of the melee professionsand each one has its benefits. Heavy sword like everone says is awesome most mobs fall in 4 or 5 hits. Fencers with center of being active rarely get hit, but takes very long to killhigh kinetic resist mobs. Pike is cool because of all the area hits and knockkdowns. Tkm mainly for the ability to heal one's self at will. Since i mastered all at one time or another i had the most fun with pike because of the above mentioned reasons and the fact that the animations for the specials are the best in the game and the damage output is too bad either.

I find it amazing, but against creatures that have 60+ % kinetic or blast resists, i still hit for at least 2k damage on them. like somebody said, there's not much we can't take down.
I used to be a master rifleman, but i'm finding melee to be much more fun. the "down in the trenches" feel when surrounded by 5 rancors is exciting! ![]()

Hehe, that's where I get all my money
. Being a pistoleer pretty much forces me to wear armor and believe me, it takes quite a beating. So if fencer is anything similar, I'll probably discount it.
I must admit, after seeing a swordsman and pikeman duel, I'm really impressed by these two professions. They were beating the crap out of each other and almost came out even. The swordsman made the finaly blow to the mind pool, but he himself had less than 100 in both his health and action.
I think I'm going to try swordsman first and maybe take down an NS elder or two
.I'll probably try pikeman later on in the future. Its just going to be weird to have to chase down fleeing critters to deal the final blow.
Thanks for the suggestions fellow rangers. Hunt on!

Yea, but why waste a perfectly good trap when the critter is one hit away from a deathblow?
I only use traps at the beginning and middle of a fight to give me the upper hand. If a creature is about to die and is fleeing, I already have the upper hand. When using a ranged weapon, you could stand where you are, blast it in the arse, and put your focus back on the rest of the mob.
Rangers don't have any problems chasing down critters with our +100 terrain negotiation. I wasjust stating the fact that its going to be strange tohave to get within thestriking range of the melee weapon.
Maybe I'm just not in a good a mood, or maybe I just don't understand your amusement.
Meh.
