Thread: The Foundation of a Ranger

Hi everyone!

I'm planning on moving into the ranger profession, but I have a question before I get started.

First a little background. I have two characters on Naritus. One is a MD + MRM, the other is a Dancer + Musician. This worked great because I could always be fully buffed, and take out pretty much anything with my T21. Of course with being so self sufficient, there was also no reason to group.

I've recently dropped rifle, and I'm adding CH. I've been having such a good time with it, I've decided to expand on the whole creature / outdoors thing. Also, it's great running around unbuffed and unarmored, gives the game a bit of extra zest.

My other character is going to drop all entertainment skills andturn into a Master Ranger + Master BE + Some CH. Currently that character is a human, but because none of her current skills are applicable, I was thinking of starting over.

My question is: which species is the best for a ranger? It's between:

Bothan + 15 to camoflage.

Transdoshian +5 to harvest.

Wookie +10 (or something) to taming and + something to trapping (who cares).

Which would be the most useful to a BE / Ranger? Is the Camoflage bonus worth anything? Would it be better to be Wookie for the extra ham points?

Thanks for any input!

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

So are you saying the camoflage bonus on Bothan is worthless? (or is it not working?)

I guess another thing to bring up is, do any of the differences really matter? Should I just make a Rodian?

When you actually use camo....which will probably be rare when /maskscent seems as efficient, and a lot quicker.

I'd say wookiee if going with more than just filler for CH, but more you can harvest the better, not to mention the melee toughness can never hurt with tran's.

Actually, the leezards get unarmed damage and unarmed speed +5 (in addition to the harvesting bonus). So, if you want a TKM, Ranger, leezrad is the only way to go .

I'm the only leezard in our guild (Ranger Corp. - guess who most of the members are), so you can imagine how popular that race is among Rangers.

Calc is right regarding TKM/Trandoshan combination though - it's a good one.

Some disadvantages are that leezards can't wear boots and gloves (armor is important to TKM), and not much of the character customization (likehair style for humans). These became apparent to me when I started to pay more attention to my character looks for role-playing. But, by Scorekeeper, you can role-play leezard-style no problem.

Also, I love my Bothan Master Ranger character on Naritus. Not that I care about race bonuses and such. Just a cool looking and quite capable fella...

- Zing! You've got milk!
- You start generating a lair. There's a Ranger 1000 m SE. You cannot place a lair that close to Ranger.

Thanks to everyone for the input! You are a helpful bunch.

The character will be focused on being able to get around in the wilds. It's also important to be able to get close to agressive creatures so I can poke them with a needle. There also might be milking in involved.

I'm fed up with buffs and combat, so my plan is to makea character that can survive out in the wild without buffs, mostly by avoiding combat.

Transdoshians aregreat, but I think I'm down to either:

Wookie for the stat bonuses.

Bothan for the camo bonus.

I'm only getting CH because it seems like a better use of the remaining 18 SP than to pick up novice brawler or marksman with 1 level 1 box. Also, I'm going to try to make custom pets, so I was trying to add a few extra pet slots (in addition to my master CH + MD).

If you have any other input, it would be appreciated.
