Thread: Droids that are desigend to help rangers
- The trap module is designed to give you a bonus on your traping xp as well as having a longer range. The benefits of a trapping module are the added xp bonus, the abscence of health costs to youto fire the traps, and the added range.
- The modules themselves do stack, meaning that the more modules placed in a droid, the more traps and higher bonus you will recieve when using it. Currently the R3 will hold the most modules at 6. A droid emngineer can mix modules to your specifications
- You may only load one type of trap into the entire droid <not one type per module>.
- Whenever using any type of droid for trapping, NEVER group it or it will run every time. They still run when argo'd but it happends much less if the droid is not grouped with you.
- One creative use of this feature for rangers who hunt using a melee class, is to load the droid with area effecting traps such as flash bombs or sonic pulse. Station it away from the nest <but within range> using the stay command. Then use it as a bomber for ranged support, having it throw traps down on your argo as you are up close fighting. Since the droid is at range and you are getting all of the attention it seems to work quite well.
Harvester modules
- The harvester modules are designed to help a scout or ranger harvest while still actively fighting their targets. Be aware that they add a bonus to the amount you harvestbut take away the xp from the harvest. Your use of this function should be based on your goal. XP or resource quantity. It is argued that you may get more xp in the long run due to the fact that a droid using this function can harvest while you fight therefore giving you xp on the carcasses that you would have missed entirely due to them dissapearing.
- These modules also stack. The dedicated harvester droids have a top bonus rating of 120. Although depending on your server, 100 - 110 is high quality and excepted as such. The bonuses translate to a percentage of harvest quantitygiven to you in addition to your own harvesting ability. The higher the bonus rating, the higher the percentage up to 20% increase at max. As you can see the amount harvested by the droid alone is criticized due to the actual bonus harvested being functional but not as noticeable as we would like. The benefits to the individual are case specific, meaning that you need to find out for yourself if you will use a droid with this function or not to your own benefit.
- Using vegash <didI spell that right?> also effects the droid's bonus, since the bonus is calculated off your bonus then added with the droid's bonus.
- Do not group the droid or it will run just like the trapper droid. The droids are programmed for self preservation and since they have no feelings, they don't mind leaving you to an argo.
I am currently working with a 50/50 trapper/harvester R3 droid. It gives me bonuses for harvesting and distance for traps. It harvests when I can't get to something but otherwise I have it stay back and fire traps. It's a good back-up and I rarely miss harvesting opportunities, yet it doesn't slow me down since I only use it when needed. In my personal opinion having a droid around and making them useful adds to the experiance.
Other non ranger specific modules to consider:
Storage : It's good to have extra storage around and even though its only 10 items per droid, those items that are storeddon't decay in the cloner when you rez. Something to think about.
Stimpack dispensers : Stimpack dispensers only use stim A's, but they use them fast <power 90 - 100 at 1 per second with a decent rating> they don't cost your mind to use them and anyone can use the droid so long as a doc with pharm 4 loads it. I personally make modules that hold 83 stims each. Thats a lot of stims if you have several modules. This module could allow you to drop novice medic <15 free points> and still get those emergancy heals when your buffs need back-up.
Please feel free to add functional information about these droid modules.
Also, thanks for the tip about not grouping -- I'll have to try that. My droid always seems to head for the hills, right when I need a stim!

If your a Ranger/rifleman, theres no choice, you HAVE to get a harvesting droid. So much easier just keeping in your prone covered position 64m out and just send in the droid to do the harvesting.
