Thread: ressources gathering (ranger vs scout)
You can increase your harvesting skill a bit by using a high level harvesting droid and veghash. So, yes, getting 0-0-4-0 in Ranger doesnt really amount to much when comparing to Scouts. If you are just going to be a harvester of all resources I would just recommend 4-0-4-0 in Scout for terraim negotiatian and harvesting. Get a high level droid and some veghash. Devote your remaining points to combat or healing mods. As it stands now you wont do much more with Master Ranger.
Master Ranger only pulls 30% more than 4040 scout?

That really sucks. No wonder there are so few rangers. Only a 30% bonus over master scout? Thats ridiculous.
yep- very true but remember that with 0040 ranger, you also get tracking skills. Most of the time this doesn't matter because 1) you can get missions for a lot of stuff or 2) the spawns are so borked that there's nothing to track, so whatever....
BUT once in a while, stuff spawns that people can't get missions for (or for which people can only get puny missions) and the spawns are actually working. Then you can really clean up because tracking will help you find these things more efficiently. Rori avian meat would be a good example. People can get missions for rasp lairs, but midnight, twilight, and dusk vir vurs drop as much as 50 units each (well the midnights drop that much). Yes, you can just circle the reb outpost on your speeder like everybody else, or you could head out and track them. If the spawns are working, you'll do a lot better. That is, if the spawns are working....
Another good example would be Lok leathery hide - yes you can just get gurk missions (gurks drop like up to 150), but between the gurk missions you can track for snorbal or even kimo spawns.
Also, tracking will help you find non-mission lairs, and if you're going to gather resources, then you should know that non-mission lairs sometimes contain 4-5x the critters (and hence the resources) as do mission lairs.
And finally, a lot of us have ranger because we want to imagine that we are hunters and somehow clicking on a mission term, scooting to a waypoint, and then back again over and over and over and over and over and overreally doesn't seem like huntingto us. So, we grab our trusty mounts, head out into the wild (what little of it there is left), and track things. Of course, if your goal is to get as much resources as much as possible, you probably will want to stick to the mission thing.

Of course, I would come to learn that there was little room for Scouts in the GCW, which is very imporatant to me. Star WARS. I wanted to be a part of it, and so after I had mastered scout, I gave it up and tried multiple combat templates. Joined the empire because at the time they were getting their ass kicked, and I liked the idea of joining the side you weren't supposed to like. Joined a guild. Guild got big. Imperials switch roles from oppressed to oppressor. PvP dies down. I get bored.
I buy this alt thinking I'd try at making a go of my old love, scouting. I know ranger is pretty borked, but what the hell. I can sell resources and have fun hunting. Maybe make enough money to support my PvP guy. Why not? But seriously. This is ridiculous. I was expecting that Master Ranger would be pulling in about 100% more than Master Scout. not 30%. I'll still probably take up ranger. But this just sucks.
