I can tell you how to migrate your stats regardless of combat style even.

Max out:

Mind
Focus
Willpower.

Then go get buffs.

I kind of came to the same conclusion about the mind pool as mentioned previously. Nothing appears to EVER touch my mind pool in the least... so I was planning on moving points from Mind to Health and Action pools since these are always heavily taxed.

As far as the Mind pool goes... I don't get a lot of buffs... nor am I really too interested in them. I don't really relish the thought of having to depend on someone else for my ability to stay alive... and I don't do any PvP to speak of... so My mind pool really doesn't seem too important... but I don't know. That's why I asked the question. <smile>

To you that have minimized your mind pool... what weapons do you use?

ya don't need any certain stats for ranger. just apply them to your offensive skills.

Ok... let me ask this a little differently...

As a Ranger, using traps, I've noticed that it really zaps my action pool big time. I'm trying to maximize my xp for the trapping linesoI beginevery fight with three traps or so. My action pool gets whomped by about 30%. Then I open up with a few special shots... and my action pool isbelow 50%.

What weapons do you all use? I know that Rifles hit for the most damage... but the range sux because, by the time I've gotten my traps off, the crittersfar closer than the "good" range for rifles. Trap range is like 47-49m right? My rifles are best at 50m or so... so the citter is at 25-30m before I can get my first rifle shot off.

I was hoping to keep my weapons limited to just one type so I can save my points for something like CH perhaps...

So, what weapon do you use the most... and how do you stack your stats for that while keeping good enough action pool for traps and such?

I know that most probably usebuffs, but I want to stay away from them because I don't want to have to rely on anyone for buffs... nor do I want to pay the prices for them.

Hope I asked that a little more clearly this time.

Thanks for any advice you have.

I originally posted this on the Scout forum and thought the RANGER forum my be a better place to ask.

What stats do you consider the MOST important for Rangers? Or, better yet, what would you suggest I do to maximize my stats for Ranger?

Also, I guess that Comp armor is not the armor of choice for Rangers... what WOULD be? Ubese?

Usually, by the time I've thrown my traps and shot off a couple specials... my action pool is almost down to nothing... I gotta change something!

Thanks.

Stats are more dependent on your Combat of choice. RAnger has no bearing on your stats.

Starsider: Blakk Star (Lost Child of the Ras'ka)- Master Ranger/TKM
Ahazi: Kojo Anonkye (Master of Ras'kan Martial Arts)- TKM/Stickfighter(Master Fencer)
Kettemoor: Underdog (Badass Bothan B-Boy)- Master Musician

While throwing traps and forraging uses a bit of your ham, you will want to focus more on setting up your stat migration depending on your combat profession.

I find that my mind stats aren't very important so they are at minimum so I can have more in my action and health.

And as far as armor goes, a lot of rangers don't wear any at all. But you will find those who rely on composite or ubese. when it comes to armor, a ranger cares mostly about kenetic resists.

if you're doing Rifles, you don't even want to throw traps unless absolutely neccesary. Conceal shot works wonders. If a creatre does aggro, use Adhesive Mesh traps to make the creature stuck for a bit and you can stay at good range. P-Darts are also great for kiting,...you can slow them down, run to max range, blast them as they walk towards you, stand up, throw another dart when the first one breaks, rinse and repeat. it's a classic move.

the type and number oftraps you're going to throw will be based upon your character, but you don't want to just throw traps like they were any other special. traps are great when used w/ tactics, they're useless if you don't know what type to use and in what situations.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Yeah, your stats are dependent on your combat profession. I'm a Rifleman/Ranger and I don't like to use buffs/armormucheither... I think my stats are something like: 800/400/400 800/400/400 1000/600/600, but I can't remember for sure. I just use stim bs a lot,so I do fine. And I don't know how many traps you're throwing to get your action down, because that was never a problem with me; I went through thetrapping tree byrooting/snaring rancors and kiting them, which was a lot of fun (albeit a bit slower than your way, probably). If I were you, though, I'd just get some stims and work healing into your tactics.

As for armor: I dohave a full set of uber composite armor, but I almost never use it. The onlytime I really use it is for high-end stuff, like the DWB, or when I have to harvest 100kDathomirian carnivore meat in a day, lol (Shadowfire has an awesome shift of the stuff).Really though, I usually am notin armor at all, but I do have some "hunting" armor, sans thewookieeness, that I use when I need a little protection.Myhunting armorisn't a full set of anything; it's a bunch of low mind-enc padded/ubese/composite that I've managed tocollect as I've traveled around-- soI don't normallywear a "set" of armor; it's all different stuff.

Anyway, I think the composite chestplate in my hunting suit is something like 64% kinetic, 10 mind encumbrance, lol. So I can wear it all without buffs, and it's really easy on the mind. However, I really don't think you'd need full composite, unless you wanted it or your play-style required it. Ubese, minus the helm, should be plenty -- especially for a rifleman. As for myself? Once I hit Master and got BE +camo clothing, my hunting armor started to collect a littledust. I think it's sitting in my safety deposit on Dath right now. That's the only place I really use it.

However, one thing to remeber is thatwhen you ditch armor/buffs, you're not going to be able to pile corpses sky-high like your friend TKM/something, who lives and breathsin buffs and composite (for now... I want to see what the CB is going to do to buffs). But Iknowit can be done -- and done well --even at high levels.

Good luck.

When it comes to traps, if you truely feel that they are the source of your ham drain, you need to understand your secondary pools. each bar has two secondary pools, one determines how fast that bar regenerates, the other determines how much you must spend from that bar to preform an action. So if you feel that throwing three traps is costing you too much ham in a fight, you want to increase your secondary pools that determine the cost of specials. (sorry, I never can remember which are which, so you'll have to look it up in game, if you hover over the stats in your character data sheet they'll tell you which is which.)

The other thing you need to take into account is that if you are wearing armor unbuffed the encumbrance of the armor is decreasing your secondary pools. So you will notice that actions cost far more ham points when you wear armor than when you don't (unless your buffed).

As a ranger you won't be using your mind pool hardly at all, so unless your weapon of choice is particularly taxing on your mind pool, and you don't PvP all that much, I'd say your fairly safe in decreasing your mind pool secondaries to their minimum and put those points in your action and health pool secondaries.

Play around with it. Get friendly with an ID and get your stats migrated, hunt and see how it works for you. Make adjustments while your in the field and go back to the ID and migrate them again
