I had my response all typed up (very calm and well thought out, btw) and I didn't hit submit. Thank goodness for restraint! I do not believe that the Devs will implement such a profession, so I just left it alone...serenity now!

yep - I saw this too, but don't really want to get into it again. Essentially he/she wants to allow scouts/rangers to harvest more than farmers, but since farmers (under his/her proposal) will be able (via the farms) to harvest afk, they will be able to gather more resources than we could ever gather manually, andyet anotherof the somewhatusefull aspects of our profession will go the way of the dodo, or should I say the spawns of talus.
Don't get me wrong - I'm all for the devs making it easier for players to get creature resources, but I would very much prefer that they do it in such a way that doesn't make my profession obsolete.

blimey - that was a long post. Got to give him 10/10 for effort there !!!
I think this would only work if there really was a use for 'domesticated' products, which although they currently exist, don't seem to have any specific use (and there's not much of them - probably due to the farmer profession getting cut out of Beta ?)
If domesticated Meat, Milk and Hide had a particular use i.e. something new for tailors and chefs, with everything else staying the same, then it shouldn't affect us at all.

Doesn't this issue come up every few months or so in various incarnations, created by some doc, BE, or chef thinking that they're brilliant with their new idea?
Now I am recently guilty of posting before reading (silly old man...), so perhaps I'm the last one who should be saying anything, but perhaps a sticky is in order. A sticky atop the boards of each profession that uses harvested organic resources saying NO to farming.
The way I picture it is this: Our avatars and the various NPCs must be eating and drinking (some more than others...)on a day-to-day basis, and there are farms and ranches producing organics for this purpose. But to make a 900 rated strength enhancer, or mind-enhancing brandy, run-of-the-millsourcessimply won't do. The wild poultry on Naboo this seasonhas the particular characteristics that the doctor needs to make his top-notch meds.
We don't see those ranches, farms and factories in the game world because we don't need to. What's more fun, a raid on an enemy base where you can risk your life in battle against soldiers and batteries of support weapons or a raid on a supply line where you set some charges on a roadway to stop some trucks from driving by?
Anyway, that's just the way I think of it.
Silly farmers, harvesting's for rangers. Grump up, Fred.

Very well said - you should post this as a reply to that guy's thread.

I submitted my opinions. I believe that the devs will never implement ideas like this, but it never hurts to show other people that they cannot take everything from us. I tried not to flame, but rather submit a few points that Rangers would take issue with.
I urge people to, even if they don't type up a formal reply, to at least show support for Rangers by /not-signing the post, to at least show that there is considerable amounts of resistance to this idea. I hate replying to the same idea over and over, but it may be the only way that we can make sure this sort of thing doesn't catch the eye of someone with some influence.

(puts on old man suit)
Back in Beta 3 the devs mentioned farmer and miner were in beta 2. But werent fleshed out enough as professions to be in game so they were removed. The main reason this keeps coming up is to limit harvesters. So that only people with certain levels of artisan could place harvesters. Making the materials far more rare then they are now. Farmer was supposed, get this, to be off of the BE tree.
They'll never be in game. Itsa non-issue. Besides why grow creatures to process when you can just get a handy "Organics" tool from doing the survey quest and pull meat and bones out of thin air
