Moral first: never forget to act like a Ranger. THINK. PREPARE. BE CALM. This is now my mantra (until the next time I forget it and get myself foolishly killed).
I did the survival rescue missions last night. I went into it really excited and ready to rock. Bad idea. I charged ahead where I should have sat back and thought.
When I got to the first waypoint there was no sith encampment. Only a Nightsister stalker. Huh. Maybe I actually have to kill the Nightsister first? Hopefully she didn't singlehandedly wipe out my encampment. So I send the pet in and start plinking away. Right away I realize my mistake and do an /ex. Yep. 100% resists to every type of damage I can do and the pet is not lasting well. I call the pet back and we run up hill until the NS gets tired and goes back to camping my waypoint.
I kill a couple lairs around the area hoping to get the encampment to spawn, periodically running up the hill when the NS gets annoyed. Nothing. Well, okay, it was a dumb idea anyway.
Now I have my bright idea. I will areatrack! Maybe they spawned nearby! Sure enough, there they are 273 NW. So I set off. In the wrong direction. Okay, I get myself oriented right and get within 100 or so meters and areatrack and they are gone! Dammit! I areatrack again and lo and behold a huge spawn of sith right next to my first waypoint!! THEY SPAWNED!!!! I run back to the wp, around the NS, and start conceal shotting the sith. They notice me right away doh! Send in the pet. Ow. That must of hurt. The pet goes down like a load of bricks. Run for the hills. Three pets later the sith are dead but my mission is still not finished!! Arrrrrg!!! I glare at the NS sitting on my waypoint for a while, delete the waypoint and run back and get another. I hate NPCs.
As I run back to the village I see a couple of huge spawns of sith in groups like the one I had attacked. Hmmm. I sit in the village for a while, healing my three ripped up pets, and finally start to think. First, check my datapad. 100% full. Oops. Second, remember about the /areatrack holes. I should have kept after that first group of sith since they had "an imprisoned villager" and the second group did not. Third, I realize the group I attacked must have been someone's large patrol mission. /BLUSH I hide under my kimogilla in shame and hope no one got a failed mission.
I go out again, minus the brain-frying excitement, and sure enough a second wp spawns as soon as I get next to the first wp. 100% full datapads are not good. I was a little disapointed that I didn't have to use areatrack, but I got to the mission much quicker. I finish all five missions in about 20 minutes. My pets return to their usual position of sitting patiently next to me, on guard, while I kill all the baddies myself.
So, once again I learn that reactionary playing will get me dead. Or rather, get my pets dead and me standing on the highest peak in Dathomir, hoping the oposition has asthma. Plan ahead, think ahead, and you will sail effortlessly through the FS missions in true Ranger style.

nice story
. I too did not know what to do when my first wp came up empty and I did not notice another had spawned (I was in a solo group so I was attuned to ignoring the Closest mission yellow arrow coming up) but in the end got it figured out. Enjoy the grind!

Paks we rangers are better equipped for the FS stuff then most of the players. Whether thats track, conceal or mostly just knowing how to find and hunt the target. Thanks for reminding me to slow down when i get to do this today.

/conceal lets you do it with even less trouble
. Although you need Master Ranger to make the camo kits

I did the rescue missions also.
Thought they were tough, and I was armored and buffed (for a change). Did use /ar to find my spawns several times. Used maskscent to get the villager home. Man they ate one droids lunch tho. He is heavily armored, 40% resists and they were hurting him. I was using fanshot like a fiend, bleeding them all, using stopping shot and was still having to heal myself, not to mention "Tank", the droid.
Sidenote - went to village today to trade in xp. A guy is asking for help. Seems his villager won't talk to him. We go to the waypoint. Hmm... tree right next to villager. I pop a basic camp, tree disappeared and villager talked to him. Taaa daahhh. For my next trick...
I can be nice, even to Imps.

Nice trick with the camp, JB.
And some people say that camps are useless. The HTFB - it won't stop the rain, but it will keep the bugs away.

Unless those bugs happen to have 8 legs, 20 eyes and scare the living **edit** out of me. Those bugs stangly seem to like my camps and make a habbit of crawling onto my face when im sat down resting in my camps
Someone needs to getin touch with the electricity company, the electric perimeter fence is on the blink again

yep - I was sort of disappointed to figure out that you didn't need to use areatrack to do the survival quests? So, I areatracked like maduntil I noticed the big-yellow-flashing-heres-the-camp-fool triangle.
I think these new FS quests are finally pushing JB to the dark side -- I mean did he just admit to using buffs? And helping an Imp?
I used buffs too, and worse yet, mind shot 3 from 64m out to take down all my targets. I didn't help any imps though

Camo, camo, camo, camo. No need for buffs or anything like that. I used one camo kit to do the entire mission. And I had no trouble doing it. I never even got shot at.

Ha! Amateurs!
I did mine unbuffed and unarmored. Although my poor kitties took a beating.

yep - I probably could have done it without buffs - only one group ever saw me, and that was because some guy drove through them on his speeder and woke them up somehow. The buffs werehelpful then, as I didn't even think to bring my armor....
