I just pull wiht traps all the time .. (Non AOE ) .. It has gone up a good bit slower than other ranger tree skills but it is non the less working .. I am 4443 and half way thru trapping .. I also make 3 diffrent kinds of ttraps that have diffrent effects and get more exp . .I pull with Glow Wire and it takes down there melee defense and then when they climb up on me I throw the AOE flash bomb .. I get EXP 2 times . Acutally I have 3 to use now that I am up a bit .. Pull with the stick then Flash then The new flash thing in the 3rd line of Trapping heh

Good luck and love hte skill not the grind .. Grinding is for Jedi . I play for fun not work . I get enopugh of that for 8 to 9 hours a day at the Radio Station . Just a thought . hehe .

IT'S A GAME ! .. Have fun

If you are having trouble becuase the creatures your group gets are too high in CL, you can always use the food Dweezel to make up the difference. (Remember to compare your TRAPPING level to the CL of the critter and not your CL)

If you could sticky this, please do. I think this will answer alot of questions people have about what they can and cannot trap at their level. If I have made a error, please tell me and I will correct the chart.

This does NOT take into account any bonus from food, spieces (wookie +10), driods, or clothing.

This does NOT take into accountyour Combat Level.

This is based on my personal experience from trapping creatures solo asI level up.

This is also based on the average chance of hitting most of the time.

Ok, I'm now doc 4234 and Ranger 4240, leaving me with grinding a tiny bit of "normal" scout xp and doc xp to finish my template.... and trapping.

Now, my experience from scout is that it took an enormous amount of time to grind out trapping, and if it's equally slow now, I don't know if I'll ever nudge that Ranger box.

It seems to me it's pretty much impossible to grind trapping in a group (the traps don't work on the relevant creatures because there's allways someone 10-30 cl's higher than me in the group), so ......

Anyone have any nice tricks up their sleeve on how to grind out trapping efficently ?

PS: I'm grinding mdoc/mranger for the hell of it, and because scout was my first profession in this game (on my main) and something I hated giving up.

to grind out my trapping xp, i went to dant, masked scent, found a friend who needed to grind trapping as well, and went off totrap. Mostly huurtons in the wild are mid 30s, and if you are a good combat lvl with healing, go alone and trap to your hearts content. I start with the p-dart to slow em, then throw the other traps as necessary. Might be surprised how fast you get trapping this way. Just don't look till yu get the sys message you qualify for trapping I and you will be gtg

Since you have doc also, you can just make up a ton of traps, perferably 3-5 different types and pull the mobs of the appropriate CL to your trapping skill (may be grey con, but trapping xp will still be in the 1000's) to you and take a beating until all 3-5 types of traps have stuck on the target. Kill target. Rinse, repeat. Also as mentioned if you grind on Dantooine or Lok in groups, get yourself some Dweezle and just toss traps till you are sick. Remember that once a target has been effected by a specific trap that you will *not* get more experience for hitting it with the same type trap again. I also want to ammend the CL levels I have found to be effective:

Trapping boxes: CL of mob without dweezel: CL of mob with +10 trapping food (dweezel)

Master Scout / Novice ranger: <60: <65

Ranger Trap 1: <70: <75

Ranger Trap 2: <80: <82

Ranger Trap 3: theoretically should stick well on all grind group level mobs, however I continued to use dweezel to get first shot to land.

If you are low on the Ranger trap levels, just make your own group around the CL of the mobs you need to stick traps on. For example, when I was only novice ranger I used to join groups that did CL 60-65 missions and got great trapping xp. Later I did 70-75 missions, and then I started getting into the CL80 groups once I had Ranger Trapping 3. I thought Trapping was going to take a long time, but with some well planned outings I did the trapping tree in about 3 days of periodic playing.

You *can* get repeated awards of XP from using the same trap in some cases, so long as you let the state effect wear off. With some traps unfortunately you will only get XP for the first hit of that type, and with others (wire mesh, iirc) it'll just bug you from being able to hit the creature with that type of trap.

I'm updating the trapping data I pulled together a couple of publishes back as there seems to have been a slight change in trap behaviours recently and I want to make sure that the info I posted remains current.

That is correct Almagill. However, I found my experience gain to be buggy if I tried to reapply a similar state after it wore off. Originally I tried just taking a CL 40ish mob and repeatedly trapping the same mob over and over reapplying states as they wore off and soon found that after the original state trap landed, I would not *always* get trapping experience with that trap type again. In fact I found it was rare that I could get it to give experience on a reapplication more than once. I found my fastest exp gain solo was on around CL 40-50ish mobs when they were grey con to me, tossing about 3-5 different traps, killing, etc. Since I am a CH also, I would use this time to get exp for my <50 CL pets too.
