Im thinking about dropping master heavy swordsman to go pistoleer. I just dont feel like I fit as a ranger with a melee weapon ( no offense just my feeling for myself). Anyone that can give me some pointers, thx.

But I get the feeling they don't care.

I'd recommend trying to get a prenerf republic blaster to use for the marksman portion of the tree (the uncerted kind). Other than that, I think Fanshot is the skill most people go for first (as it is a high damage AoE). Make sure to carry plenty of different damage types as you really need to watch resists without a higher AP weapon. Although most of this is just a guess, though (I did Smuggler, not Pistoleer).

I am a Pistoleer, and I am considering giving it up and going Rifleman myself. Not that I don't get decent results with a pistol, I just hear about how rifleman is very good. So, I say go with what you want, and damn the torpedoes.

I used to do rifleman/ranger, now do pistoleer/ranger.

Personal preference? Yeah, I guess... but my first choice was the rifle so I don't think that's it.

What changed my mind? At the same ranges I can still deal a decent amount of damage with the pistol, on average the pistol fires 2-3 times more than the rifle and when the critters close in I don't have to worry about switching weapons...

Everyone can say that the rifle deals way more damage, which it will.. but sooner or later things close in and then the rifle's useless.

And some of the pistoleer skills are great, too... stopping shot, fan shot, double tap... working out great.

Hope this helped...

I started working on a template that has some Pistoleer and the Feign Death skil from smuggler. So for FD works like a champ, and i am happy with it. Going from TKM to Pistols was nice since you can do multiple types of damage. As far as fitting is concerned, there is a whole lot that fits in this game. As my guild mate said just today, "I have accepted that this game is not the Star Wars universe, but an alternate reality of it."

I am probably the advocate of Pistoleer and Ranger. Can't stand waiting on my second shot for rifle...yawn... and carbines...let's not go there.

With the proper tactics, some skill, a wee bit of cunning and bravery and a measure of luck, you can solo about anything. Notice I said about. Not counting the monster beasties now. But a standard red con - not out of the ordinary. And that's unarmored, and no doc buffs. Me and the right pistol.

Pistols represent the fastest weapons short of melee, and aside from cold (and I hoping to see that change soon), all the types of damage are represented.

So there ya go - and the higher up the trees, the more fun it is. Altho avoid the pistoleer forum like the plague, almost as bad as the BH forum.

My idea of the true Ranger is one that wields two blades as I did in another realm, but in SWG pistoller works for me.

Fanshot is awesome when you are hunting to harvest resources.

Everything goes better with ranger. I'd like to teach the world to ranger, in perfect harmony. I'd like to see a master stay, so we'd have company...

Oh, sorry. A quick secondhand report: Pistoleer is very good, despite the complaints. Some tactics will be required, but you will have good melee defense and good state defenses - which is useful when fighting creatures.

I use rifles myself. Mainly because I am lazy - headshots, rifle concealment chance, and a nap.The speed is a real issue before you get to master, at which point the HAM costs become the real issue.

mmm... ham.

I'm a ranger/pistoleer and it has worked quite well so far. If ever dual-wield gets implemented, it will be THE way to go. My only regret about being a pistoleer though is it gives poor roleplaying value. After all, you go hunting with a rifle, not with your pistol.
