Thread: I'm leaving Ranger :(

Guys, I hate to say it, but I'm dropping my master ranger status. I've decided that holding on to Ranger is doing nothing for me.The amount of resources I get is piddly compared to people who can fight because they only have master scout and a combat prof. I am going to miss ranger greatly because this was the first profession I wanted when I got SWG last year. There is nothing there for me though. Area track is nice, but it just doesn't help when it only shows the things right around me. Mask scent is good, but I have +mask scent clothes so I won't suffer there. Camo, why bother. Rescue doesn't work. Camps are a joke, they are just eye candy. And really, who uses traps? I'll come back someday, if Rangers ever become good. Until then I am going to some other prof that is fun and useful. I'll be back someday, but not till we're fixed.

I've been considering doing the same. Maybe I'll drop Master Ranger and just keep the Tracking line. Then I can master Rifleman and pick up some more Creature Handler skills.

I love the ideas put forward in the Outdoorsman proposal, and if a quarter of them were ever implemented I'd be quite happy as a Ranger. Unfortunately, our profjust doesn't offer much bang for the buck at this time.

What is that creature handler doing for you?

I have never ever been impressed by CH, if you wanna know the truth. Ok, big pets were cool, when we were all semi-noobish. But with the nerfs, and the better weapons, buffs and armor, pets are nothing besides short lived tanks. Hell, my R5 droid is a better tank, and it has an electrical attack, than most pets, and he (yes he, his name is Fred) costs me nothing in skill points.

I have mastered a combat profession, Pistoleer, and may drop it slowly to pick up another one, maybe. I dunno yet. Anyhow, something gets past your pets, your fecal matter is in the air circulation device.

Regardless, I would wave bye bye to the pets and keep Ranger.

the devs really are killing off the rangers aren't they. conceal doesn't work well enough to be used often, areatrack is bugged, camps have been rendered useless, the traps give me state changes that i can make with my fighting profession...... and nothing is happening to change this.

You have pretty much summed it up. I wanted to hunt for my credits and realized quickly that Ranger did not cut it. I dropped several ranger skillsand now I'm master rifle, tracking IVand working to lvl 40 CH. Also a novice med.

Its a good hunting template. Run a high kinetic pet in and strafe shot.

I hear a TK is even better but at least I can hunt with my current skills.

You know if the other skills in Ranger worked as well as the tracking skill it would be awesome.

Tracking is not perfect but it helps and combined with increased harvest its pretty good. I even forage now and then for pet food!

Now if camping, camo and trapping worked as well then ranger would be a heck of a skill - too bad they don't work. They are even taking my hunt master title away and giving it to BHs, kinda ridiculous.

I knkew they were removing the Hunt Master title from the Tracking line, but I didn't know it was going to Bounty Hunters instead. Is that right?

I just wanted to let you guys know that the other side is great. I'm still a Ranger at heart. Heck, they should give everyone master ranger status at no extra skill point loss. I'm gaining all these new skills going through brawler to get to Smuggler and I still use all my master ranger stuff as much as I did since i mastered it. So I consider myself a ranger still, just instead of not using anything because it is pointless, i just can't. So yeah, things are still going well, and as soon as ranger gets fixed i'm dropping everything to come back. And hey, if you have or are planning on dropping Ranger, post your name and server here so we can see just how many of us the Devs are driving away.

why cant a person that is dishearted with the ranger profession, just say " I am going to try something else for awhile, I'll see you all later, but I'll keep in touch" rather then the exit essay I keep seeing that continue to point out what most of us have heard, addressed and continue to try and resolve in the best way we can. (Thank you Calc, and Nrass). Exarukum, I'm sorry to see you leave, Have fun and good hunting

probably because it seems to the ranger that the only thingthey have going for them is that they belong to this community of rangers... also, it helps to alleviate some of the frustration of wanting something you can't have if you speak about it.. in this case, it turns into a wishlist for ranger's abilities and the shame it is that we have to create those abilities...

Not that I disagree but if we limited ourselves by not posting things we've all heard/addressed we wouldn't be posting much of anything. Actually I think it's good to see these posts. One or two of them aren't going to mean all that much. But a continual stream of them might (note the word *might*) just get someone upstairs to look at the situation. Who knows? Stranger things have happened. I'd personally rather see us get attention that way than by screaming, yelling, ranting, and causing a big fuss.

The sad fact is, we *have* heard, addressed, posted, cogitated, listed, debated, etc., and it hasn't really done much good. I think NRass (and NRaas also) did a great job and I think Calc will blaze along the same path by gathering all the disparate posts and shoving it at the developers in a nice format they are willing to look at. But I don't see the end result being any different - in other words we aren't in the spotlight yet. We aren't on stage. We aren't even in the same building where the work is being done currently. If the last few months haven't proven that beyond a shadow of doubt, nothing will.

Somewhere, somehow Ranger will be attended to. It will happen. Eventually. Question is, how many Rangers will be around to see it?
